No place to hide for Mourinho’s men

Spurs need to fight or die. Yes, it's that dramatic.

It’s getting a bit tiresome, right? Waiting for Spurs to wake up. To do something. Anything. This slump out of context looks pretty dire on paper and on television too. Three wins out of twelve games. Handful of points out of a possible thirty-six. From top of the table to ninth. But is it as bad as it appears to be when looking at the maths?

It’s not good but it’s hardly the crisis that some fans and pundits seem to be enjoying with ample validation. See what’s happened is that Jose got as much out of the players in the early stages of the season, in terms of discipline and effectiveness. Everything since has been a fragile mess. Why? Well, because the same set of players are not capable of sustaining football that is heavily reliant on not making mistakes. Spurs have made a bundle of them.

There has to be a return to the swagger not the methodical boring football. A middle ground of sorts. Tottenham have to offer their fans a bonus like a new customer walking into a new shop and being dazzled by the items on display.

What’s then happened is that confidence has dragged the team further down into a turgid mess. We have gifted goals, been punished ourselves. It’s not a full on capitulation and amazingly, the football at times isn’t half as bad as the vocal ones preach.

Spurs are in a slump for sure but unlike former disaster zones under say Ramos – this is barely 2 points from 8 games territory. Yes, this squad is fundamentally broken and needs more than what Jose can offer in the space of one full season. He needs more players, key positions to be solidified. He needs one or two experienced signings too. But the core of what we have remains strong.

We just have to get the confidence back up.

At the time of writing Spurs are playing a Europa League cup. Then we have a match against West Ham United – that love to have a right proper go – and could even stretch their lead over Tottenham to nine points with a win. Then it’s Burnley (after the second leg of the Europa game). Thick and fast come these fixtures and as much as the fans want to see a continuation of more attractive football, they are desperate to see WINS.

Spurs have to regain momentum and the only way is to display not just effort and application but true grit and the hunger to bully and torment opponents again. Arrogance is key. Its also hard to find its door to unlock if you feel sorry for yourself.

Spurs have to wake up and put the fear of God into the opposition. There is no more hiding. Just fighting.

So fight Spurs. Fight or die.
