Who's gonna bang at the EUROS?

The UEFA European Championships 2020 is finally underway there is a lot of football to be played over the next month. The tournament itself has gained a lot of allure since its inception in 1958. Now, players and fans alike look forward to it with nearly as much anticipation as the World Cup.

The Euros is always a footballing feast with the strongest footballing nations competing, and with squads made up of talent scattered across the globe. Tottenham Hotspur has seven squad players (eight if you count Gareth Bale) joining their national teams, but which players could leave a lasting impact on who wins the Henri Delaunay Trophy.

Harry Kane

England have an abundance of talent, and the Three Lions are one of the favourites to win the tournament at 5/1 in the UEFA European Football Championship odds after reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018. Having Harry Kane, the World Cup 2018 golden boot winner is a huge lift for England, as without him, England’s attack would be all flash and no finish.

The captain will have the weight of a nation on his shoulders. Although, the pressure on the striker has eased over the last few years by the outstanding talent that has come through, with the likes of Mason Mount, Phil Foden and Kalvin Phillips who are more than able to supply the striker with ample opportunities to score.

Harry Kane is fresh off one of his finest seasons to date, winning the Premier League golden boot with 23 goals and leading it in assists with 14. He offered a complete game, and his link-up game with Son Heung-min was outstanding. He hopes to strike up a similar partnership with Raheem Sterling this summer to provide the goals for England.

Hugo Lloris

What do France and Spurs have in common? Hugo Lloris being their number one and captain, of course. The French shot-stopper was back to his best last season, as he placed sixth for saves with 114, fourth for clean sheets with 12, seventh for high claims with 23.

Despite a lacklustre season from Spurs, his upturn in form comes at just the right time for the French national team. Some questioned whether he should remain France goalkeeper, but still, he continues to prove himself, and his leadership qualities will be paramount to France as they aim to follow-up their World Cup win with a European Championship.

France go into the tournament as favourites at 7/2, which is no surprise with such a talented squad, but they will need Lloris to be at his peak to follow through on their potential.

Toby Alderweireld

Toby Alderweireld has been on people’s radar for such a long time that it seems his talent is taken for granted. A classy defender who is equally as capable of winning a last-ditch tackle as pinging a 60-yard perfect pass. The towering Belgian has been in their squad for over a decade, adding a calm and commanding presence.

Belgium boasts a plethora of attacking talent like Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard. Still, it is the solidity that Alderweireld provides that allows all the forwards to operate with freedom. In the Belgian team especially, they play with a very attacking 3-4-3, which means the back three have to be watertight.

They are the fourth favourites at 13/2, which means they are in with a strong possibility of winning the Euros. Belgium should have no problem scoring goals, so it will be up to Alderweireld to ensure they don’t concede. If Belgium are to capitalise on their golden generation, it has to be now.

Other Spurs players will be there too, like Ben Davies, Joe Rodon and Moussa Sissoko. Spurs will be heavily represented at the Euros, but these three players should have a direct hand in who wins the competition.
