Why Is Harry Kane Considered the Most Valuable in the EPL?
If you ask football fans, especially the younger ones, who’s the world’s best player, many of them will immediately say either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. However, while nobody can dispute the skills of world-class players like Messi, Lewandowski, or CR7, quite a few experts agree that one of the best attackers is none other than our very own Harry Kane.
According to Transfermark, Harry Kane’s current market value is around £100 million, and he is the most valuable player in the entire league. Not only that, but the number is significantly higher than any other on the list. Players like Grealish, Lukaku, De Bruyne, and Salah come second with a market value of around £85 million each. Interestingly, even though Cristiano Ronaldo earns around £26 million per year and is one of the highest-paid football players in the world, his market value is £32 million while Kane earns only £10.4 million annually.
Harry Kane had a difficult time climbing to the top. After his breakout season in 2014/2015, football analysts worldwide continued to doubt him, calling him a one-season wonder. Despite the harsh criticism, Harry Kane continued to improve and proved to be one of the best players in the EPL season after season.
In 2018, Kane’s reputation was at an all-time high. During the World Cup, he had a brilliant performance and finished as the best scorer, hitting the back of the net six times for the national team. At the time, Kane was on top of the world and was considered one of the best attackers, alongside Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Unfortunately, shortly after, Kane suffered two injuries, and his performance dipped. At one point, he made only 2.8 shots per game, which was the lowest average of his career. Not only that, but he was creating only one chance per match and looked like a shadow of his former self. Luckily for Kane, he got his much-needed rest when the entire EPL was on a break at the beginning of early 2020.
Just a few months after that, Kane regained his form and was scoring every 116 minutes, compared to every 162 minutes before his injuries. Currently, he’s playing some of the best football of his life and is widely regarded as one of the most prolific strikers in the entire EPL.
One of the best qualities he is well-known for is his superb finishing skills. So far, Harry Kane has scored 166 goals for the Spurs. Whether he’s in the box or shooting long-range, Kane is a clinical finisher. Moreover, apart from his dominant foot, Kane is able to score with his weaker foot and is also excellent at air duels and using his head to score.
Since 2015, Kane has won three Golden Boots in EPL. In addition, he has managed to score more than 15 non-penalty goals in four consecutive seasons. The only EPL players who achieved the same are Henry, Shearer, Salah, and Aguero. The only season where Kane scored less than 15 non-penalty goals was in 2018/2019 when he injured his ankle twice.
However, Kane does much more on the pitch and is also an excellent creator. In fact, he has one of the highest goal contribution rates in the entire EPL and will often assist players like Son Heung-min with whom he has a perfect partnership. While he may not be one of the best crossers in the league, Kane is precise with through balls, progressive passes, and passes into the final third. Additionally, Harry Kane will often drop deep and provide ball progression or draw defenders’ attention and create space for his teammates to attack from out wide, making him a vital player for the Spurs.
When we talk about Kane, one thing that’s often overlooked is the impact he has in his own penalty box, especially during corner kicks. Moreover, because of his tenacity, he will often run back and help the defence, which is not something many attackers are willing to do.
Finally, Harry Kane is only 28 years old and has a few good years ahead of him. Unfortunately for the Spurs, this may also be one of the reasons that may cause him to depart from the team. Namely, Kane expressed his desire to win a major trophy in his career. So far, he has made the Champions League final, League Cup final, and FA cup semi-final twice, but he is yet to lift the trophy.
However, regardless of whether he leaves the team or stays for another season or two, there is no denying that Harry Kane is one of the most sought-after players. All things considered, his presence on the pitch, game awareness, and finishing skills are just some of the reasons he is the most valuable player in the entire EPL and worth the money.
