Should Antonio Conte Target the Europa Conference League?
There has been a lot of talk for the past few years from opposing fans about one Tottenham Hotspur related to one particular thing. That is, as many will know, the lack of ability that Tottenham have to win trophies.
This has cursed the club for some time now, and to find the last time that Spurs won a trophy, you have to go all the way back to 2008, when they won the League Cup. For a team the size of Tottenham, even if demanding the Premier League title is unrealistic, there are plenty of opportunities out there, and one should have been taken by now.
New boss Antonio Conte has come into the club, tasked with improving things, but one thing that would certainly get fans back on side is bringing home a trophy. A lack of success has hurt the fanbase, and some will have drifted away to other things. From trying out new sports to moving to non-league football and some using comparison site Lucky Dice to find the best place to play casino games, there are many reasons for people to have moved on.
It’s time for Conte to pull them back.
Should the Europa Conference League Be a Big Target?
Looking at the potential trophies that Tottenham could win already, plus their league finishing position, Conte has a lot of work to do. The club are not going to win the Premier League and finishing inside the top four also looks unlikely.
That means the Premier League is all about finishing in a European spot to get into the Europa League. The FA Cup is a possibility, but that depends on the draw that Tottenham receive, while the club are still in the Carabao Cup at the quarter final stage, but much of their success depends on how the draw falls and how seriously others take the competition.
That leaves one more competition to look at, the Europa Conference League. When Antonio Conte took charge of Tottenham, this was probably not at the top of the agenda, or the biggest talking point in his interview, but it could well become his most important task.
Spurs would love to get the monkey off their back and win a trophy, is there anything else that offers them a better chance of doing that than this competition? There doesn’t appear to be.
The club stands out in the Europa Conference League as being the best and biggest team in the competition. When the third-placed Europa League clubs drop into the tournament, that is still likely to be the case, barring any major upsets.
This competition was not designed for teams like Tottenham, instead it was developed to give new teams the chance to experience Europe. Spurs won’t mind that though, and they should put all of their focus on winning it, to break the curse and lift their first trophy since 2008. The fans would certainly see this as an instant positive in the Conte reign.
