Dear Son and the Top 4 Finish
If you haven’t watched the movie “Dear John,” I advise you to do it. Well, for us, Spurs fans, it’s rather “Dear Son.” After a rollercoaster season, our football scores are far above our worst nightmares and the same distance away from Pochettino’s era.
When we beat City at the Etihad, I had to admit that our position was tough to swallow – we cruised over the Citizens in an exciting derby, ending up as winners. Harry Kane was finally doing Harry Kane things and Son – what a gem that we have!
I have to admit that football today lacks such humble players. Especially in England football is considered a religion that is fortunately or not played by prima donnas (Jack, the Beckham-lookalike, I’m pointing at you), but we seem to underestimate talent as it is.
Kulusevski was a great addition. The transfer was a little bit odd at first – it’s like joining the crypto world and deciding to buy XRP with paybis first, ahead of the mainstream things. At least that’s how I felt it.
Are we good enough?
When we look at the recent form, we can see that the boys are trying their best to finish in top form. We thrashed Everton, Newcastle, and Villa but lost 3 points at home against Brighton. We showed up class against West Ham, but we fell short against Cristiano.
As I stated before – this season has been a rollercoaster. There is a lot of class, especially in attack. Yet I don’t see the defense that has to be shown. Arteta’s Arsenal are weaker than our boys, that’s for sure. But they are much more efficient when defending, even though we laughed at them at the beginning of the season.
Manchester United are out of the race, that’s for sure. I can’t see them overcoming the deficit that late in the season, and giving how they played against Liverpool, I can’t see them clinching a top 4 spot.
The “Blues” from West London look exhausted but still win games. Honestly, this team is a mystery to me – how did they keep fighting after what happened with Roman Abramovich and the board?
Can we make it to top 4?
I honestly believe we can get into the top 4. Gunners will receive a “warm” welcome at White Hart Lane, and honestly, I believe we will beat them. Our boys have the legs, the heart, and Conte! If I have to trust one person, well, the Italian is the guy.
However, I don’t think we will end up with a positive result against Liverpool. Last time we faced each other, it was very intense, and I think the draw was a good result, considering how good Klopp’s side is. Honestly, I think we can play City better than Liverpool. It’d be safe to assume that our front three should have a good day, as I don’t expect us to keep a clean sheet. Not against Mane, Salah, and the new guys – Jota and Diaz.
Key players that will decide our fate
The headline is not a coincidence. I honestly believe that Spurs without Harry Kane are toothless, but Spurs without Heung-Min Son are heartless. I still miss Christian when I see him play for The Bees (Brentford). He looked so fresh – I can never say he was almost dead less than one year ago.
Anyways, let’s not distract from the main topic. Apart from the front 3 who will have to carry us to the Holy Grail this season (a top 4 finish), I believe we should see some more of Hugo’s heroics. We know what he’s capable of if he has a day. We also know what he is NOT capable of, especially if put under pressure.
Hopefully, we will see the best of Lloris against the Gunners and the Reds, otherwise we might miss out on Champions League. While it may cost us a lot of money (£13m for reaching the Group Stage), seeing Arsenal ahead of us is going to be much more painful to watch.
Final thoughts
We are at the season’s final stage, and teams will play their last accords for the 2021/22 campaign. If we play our cards well, we have all the chances to reach a top 4 spot. But it won’t be easy. While we have Leicester (who are fighting for UEFA Conference League glory) and Norwich as easier matches, we have to face Arsenal and title challengers Liverpool within 5 days and come up as winners. And let’s not forget Burnley who are fighting for their lives, and still have hopes of staying in the Premier League next season.
I think, 12-13 points will seal the deal. Let’s see.
