Daring is doing, right?

This summer could be one of the biggest in Tottenham Hotspur’s recent history, as they look to close the gap on the leading sides in the Premier League. The recent signs are good regarding Spurs, as they have managed to get themselves back into the hunt for a position in the Champions League places.

But, a top-four finish is the first step towards their progression over the coming seasons, according to FootySamba.com. Therefore, what areas must Spurs address in the summer months if they are to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool, and potentially mount a title challenge next season?

Sort Kane’s Future

Tottenham can’t afford another summer of uncertainty like they did 12 months ago. Spurs fans were left checking social media every half an hour to see whether there were any updates regarding Harry Kane’s future at the club, as the England captain looked to force through a move to Manchester City. However, no move eventually materialised, much to the relief of the Spurs faithful. But, the damage was likely done by the saga, as it left Spurs on the backfoot when it came to preparing for the new season.

Nuno Espirito Santo was given the shortstraw, as he was forced to rethink plans on how to make Tottenham competitive without Kane. There’s no denying that Spurs are a more complete side with the English star involved, and that has been evident by the fortunes of the club since Antonio Conte’s arrival. That led to the Englishman joining Sergio Aguero on seven Player of the Month accolades in April. However, ensuring that Kane commits his long-term future to the team this summer could be the key for the 2022-23 campaign.

Will Conte Remain In Charge?

When Tottenham went through a rough patch earlier in the campaign, questions were immediately raised whether Conte would walk away from the club, just as he did during his time with Inter Milan. The Italian isn’t one to hide how he feels about the club that he is charge of, and that was evident when he walked away from Inter just weeks after capturing the Serie A title.

Daniel Levy has been a shrewd operator throughout his days as Tottenham boss, but having Conte as manager of the club is vitally important moving forward. Therefore, Levy must do everything within his power to keep the Italian happy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and that will likely mean investment in the squad over the summer. Conte could be the best chance Spurs have of getting back on terms with the leading pack.

Transfer Business

As we mentioned, keeping Conte onside will likely require some big reinforcements brought into strengthen the squad. Spurs will likely be looking for some extra defensive cover during the summer, with a new central defender likely to rank high on the Italian’s wish list.

As well as that, two new full-backs may also be demanded, as the signing of Emerson Royal hasn’t worked out as many would have hoped. Huge Lloris’ position as number one could also be in doubt, as the Frenchman looks past his prime, and the club may need a new goalkeeper if they are to reach the next level.
