Tottenham Transfer Speculation this Summer
Although Tottenham finished a respectable fourth at the end of the 2022 season, the English Premiership side must have felt a little bit of disappointment. A few seasons ago when players like Harry Kane were breaking through into the team and they were putting in fantastic performances with an exciting squad, it was felt that Tottenham could have been challenging for major honours.
A few seasons and a few managers later, that momentum seems to have been lost. The team is still one of the best in the English Premiership but only the most blinkered Tottenham Hotspur fan believes they are as good as Liverpool or Manchester City.
In fact, this took form in Tottenham star Harry Kane trying to join Manchester City last season, reluctantly turning down an extension to his contract.
Now, however, after Antonio Conte took over as manager bringing a notable increase in performances, results, and football scores, Kane is happy to stay and fight for the club. Champions League football next season for Spurs must also have been a boost to Kane, as he realises that maybe under Conte the club can do great things and win trophies.
Tottenham’s directors have made a reported £150 million at Conte’s disposal and so it would seem that the manager has the backing of both club and players. So what new faces can we expect to see at Tottenham?
Conte’s Shift Conte’s Strategy
One aspect that is expected to change under Conte’s stewardship is that Spurs will bring in more experienced players rather than go for younger players. It is clear that the Italian wants experience in key positions.
According to Sky Sports Conte believes there is plenty of room for improvement in his squad. In fact, prior to pledging his future to Spurs, he was considering a move to Italy. Happily for Spurs, they managed to reach an agreement and now there is talk Kane will be signing a new contract for the club. One does have the feeling that good times are just around the corner.
So who will Conte bring to Spurs?
New Faces at Tottenham
It is believed that key positions such as goalkeeper, centre back, central midfield, striker, and wing-back are key positions he will look to improve. Conte is looking to add depth to the squad and experience but not at any cost. Tottenham recently pulled out of a big-name transfer due to the fact that research into the player discovered he was a disruptive influence in his current squad, which is most managers’ worst nightmare.
Djed Spence
Although only 21, both Tottenham and Arsenal are gunning for his signature such is the man’s defensive talents. It is believed that Arsenal will lose out to Spurs who are set to sign the wing-back. Spence has scored twice and achieved four assists playing for Middlesborough during the 2021-2022 season.
Richarlison
Richarlison de Andrade known more commonly as Richarlison is a Spurs Target. He is also the target of Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain, and Real Madrid. This competition is fierce and many feel that Manchester United which is seeing an exodus of attacking talent at the club, will be the most keen to sign the Brazilian.
That said, he may see what Conte is trying to do and make the decision to join the North Londoners.
Fraser Forster
The Southampton goalkeeper and England international is on the verge of singing for Spurs at the time of writing. It is believed he has signed a two-year contract and will be the club’s number two behind Hugo Lloris.
The experienced keeper has according to the Daily Mail completed a medical and is all set to become a Tottenham player for at least two years.
John McGinn
Right now talented Scottish midfield player John McGinn plays for Aston Villa. That is set to change this summer as both Tottenham and West Ham are in the hunt for the 27 year old. Given the difference in league positions, McGinn if given a choice is going to the North rather than East Londoners.
Martin Terrier
It is understood that Conte has moved to sign Terrier to the club, who currently plays his football for the French Ligue 1 club, Rennes. In the 2021-2022 season, he scored 21 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances and is believed to be underrated by most of the world.
If he is a player that somehow slipped through the cracks, then this could be a significant signing for the club.
Konrad Laimer
According to the national press both Arsenal and Spurs are in the hunt for this talented 24 year old midfielder. Currently, he plays his football for RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga and has been capped by his country, Austria.
Laimer puts in consistent impressive performances and has been described as a ‘warrior’ in midfield.
There is no mistaking the buzz at Tottenham. It is up to the team to turn this momentum into silverware.
