How will Tottenham Players Perform at the World Cup in Qatar?
The World Cup begins in a week’s time. We’re going to look at some of the Tottenham players who could light up the Qatar World Cup.
The North London outfit is not known for winning domestic trophies, but it represents a large contingent of national heroes. Several players have been included in their national sides in preparation for the tournament that kicks off on November 20. However, despite the sport’s unpredictable nature, some might do well. We have selected six Spurs players who might majorly impact the 2022 World Cup.
Kane, Harry – England
It had to be Harry Kane first on the list. He has been breaking incredible records for Spurs, and might also do so at the international stage. He will lead the England attack in Qatar, as Gareth Southgate’s team tries to improve on their semi-final defeat in 2018. Kane set a good example at the World Cup in Russia. The Spurs forward scored six goals and was named tournament MVP.
Kane became the first Englishman to win the golden boot since Gary Lineker in 1986 at the World Cup in Mexico.
Tottenham’s captain has enjoyed a solid start to the season ahead of the 2022 edition, scoring 12 goals and one assist in 15 Premier League games. Furthermore, he has a goal and an assist in the Champions League.
Ivan Perisic – Croatia
Perisic, a summer addition for Spurs, is an important member of Croatia’s national squad. The dynamic athlete usually impresses when he dons the red and white checks.
Perisic led his side through the group stage of Euro 2020 with two goals and one assist in three matches.
Perisic’s World Cup record speaks for itself as well. The Croatian has five goals and three assists in 10 career games on the greatest stage. He excelled in the latter stages of the 2018 edition, in particular.
Rodrigo Bentacur – Uruguay
Rodrigo Bentacur has been a revelation for Spurs this season. He signed off for the World Cup with a late brace to see off a resilient Leeds at White Hart Lane on Saturday. Bentancur makes it to the Uruguay team where he will be playing with Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo and Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, among other upcoming stars.
His performances from the midfield means he can give the South Americans the balance they need to cause an upset, despite an average World Cup qualification journey.
Richarlison – Brazil
Richarlison is another Spurs player who might perform well in Qatar despite not scoring enough for his club. Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino has registered better stats in the Premier League so far with 7 goals and 3 assists, but Tite opted for Richarlison.
The depth of Brazil’s team, particularly in the attacking third, is the envy of the world, and the Spurs forward must be at his best to get a starting spot.
The Spurs forward is currently recuperating from injury, but his inclusion in the final list means he will be fully fit for the big stage. He has made 38 appearances for The Selecao, scoring 17 goals.
The former Everton man was also named to their squad for September’s most recent round of international friendlies. He subsequently returned the favor, scoring a brace against Ghana and once against Tunisia.
Son, Heung-Min – South Korea
The Spurs’ No. 7 has the potential to light up the world stage this winter. Son is South Korea’s talisman, despite a slow start to 2022/23 (save for a hat-trick against Leicester).
Son has three goals in six appearances in previous World Cups. He had one in his first World Cup in 2014, and two more in Russia 2018. South Korea failed to get past the group stage in each of these tournaments. Could he be the man to take the Samsung makers further in this edition?
He is currently out injured, but he was included in the South Korea team for the World Cup, meaning he could play a part.
Pierre-Emile Hojberg – Denmark
Hojbjerg has been included in Denmark’s final team for the trip to Qatar where he’ll be looking for a starting berth alongside former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen. Denmark have been marked as a potential dark horse of the tournament, and will be playing France, one of the tournament favourites. Other teams in the group are Australia and Tunisia.
