Coach Frank Reich was sacked by the Colts for a string of poor results. Could we see his return? Find out here.

The world of sport is ever-changing. Every team experiences highs and lows, with successful runs giving way to periods of stagnation and even regression. Legends, both players and backroom staff, come and go in the blink of an eye, often in a blaze of glory leaving fans rueing their departure.

Players often come back as coaches, using their experience and knowledge to mentor the next generation of athletes. This is true for many sports, the NFL included. We’ve seen countless players return as part of a coaching team, to varying degrees of success.

Recently, beleaguered coach Frank Reich has dropped hints that he could make a return to the coaching game. What could this mean for the sport? Let’s find out.

Who Is Coach Frank Reich?

Frank Reich is a former coach and football player who has been involved in the sport for nearly 40 years. He began his NFL career when he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 1985 NFL Draft. He achieved some success as a backup quarterback with the Buffalo Bills, before seeing out the remained of his playing career with the Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions, before retiring in 1998.

Reich’s Coaching Career

After retiring, Reich then followed a route familiar to former players looking to break into the world of coaching. He joined the Indianapolis Colts as an intern before being promoted to an offensive coaching staff assistant in 2008. He went on to hold similar positions with the Arizona Cardinals in 2012, the San Diego Chargers in 2013, and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016.

He made a grand return to the Colts in 2018 and was appointed as the team’s head coach. His first win came against the Washington Redskins, however he had rather a tumultuous time and endured some tough results. Despite a shaky start, Reich managed to lead the Colts to the playoffs in his first season in charge, eventually losing out to the Kansas City Chiefs.

He stayed with the Colts until this year, when he was fired after a string of poor results on the field. The team replaced him with Jeff Saturday, a move that represented Saturday’s first ever head coaching role.

What Does This Mean For Sports Betting?

Sports betting is one of the most popular forms of gambling and has been for many years. The unpredictable nature of sport and the high stakes and drama make for the perfect mix, ideal for placing wagers either ahead of time or even in-game. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a complete newcomer looking for the best blackjack guide for beginners, you’ve no doubt been surprised at some of the twists and turns that can come from the sporting world.

Coaches getting fired can have an enormous impact on the team. A new coach coming in can give them the boost they need to get results and can breathe new life into tactics and playing style to get immediate results. However, changing the top position can also have the opposite effect. Teams can continue to struggle and can even get worse; this is especially common in teams where the problems run deeper than just the coach.

The performance of one team with a new coach will have a knock-on effect on the rest of the teams in the league’s results, which can have a significant impact on the odds and success of wagers placed previously.

 Will Coach Reich Return?

Reich has dedicated his life to football. It’s hard to keep a man who has shown that level of commitment away for long, even after he was sacked in such unceremonious fashion.

By using advanced analytics systems, experts revealed that Reich is statistically one of the best coaches in the NFL. Admittedly, this was before the bad run that led to him losing his job but, nonetheless, the data will be difficult for some teams to ignore.

Reich himself spoke out after his firing, confirming that he is still eager to return to coaching in the future and that he is looking to keep “his options open”. In fact, there are already rumors about a potential link between Reich and the Philadelphia Eagles. There is nothing concrete yet, but it just goes to show how quickly things can change in the world of sport, and that nothing should be taken for granted.

Conclusion

Frank Reich has had an incredible career that has spanned nearly four decades. He is going through a rough patch at the moment, but there’s no doubt he’ll return in the future.
