Tottenham’s October 2024 Preview
As the 2024/25 campaign starts to pick up momentum, Tottenham Hotspur seem to be clicking into gear following an unenviable start. Tottenham fans betting on their team would be interested in looking at VPNs for PrizePicks as well as other bookmakers to allow them to back their team on the pitch.
It’s Ange Postecoglou’s second season in charge of Spurs, and bettering last term’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League emerges as the club’s top priority.
While it’s hard to expect the North London outfit to go toe-and-toe with Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool in the title race, a piece of long-awaited silverware would be a welcome addition.
Not since 2007/08 have the Londoners won a top-tier honour.
Perhaps a famous second-season winning streak Postecoglou has maintained with every club he’s managed throughout his career could inspire confidence at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A first Premier League crown since 1960/61 remains far-fetched, but Spurs are joint-favourites to secure Europa League glory alongside domestic rivals Manchester United.
They lived up to that tag in their opening fixture on Thursday night, bouncing back from Radu Dragusin’s early red card to put Qarabag to the sword in a comprehensive 3-0 triumph on home soil.
Marquee summer arrival Dominic Solanke chipped in with a goal and an assist to open his Tottenham account after several below-par league performances.
In his defence, the ex-Bournemouth striker has struggled with injuries during his early days in London, as he admitted he’s still not 100% fit during a post-match interview via Eurosport.
Postecoglou will need his £55 million acquisition at his peak powers in an action-packed October.
Ferencvaros [Europa League, A] – 03/10/2024
Swedish prodigy Lucas Bergvall paid the price for Dragusin’s expulsion against Qarabag as Postecoglou subbed him off after just 12 minutes to make way for Destiny Udogie.
According to the Evening Standard, the 59-year-old manager has vowed to hand the 18-year-old midfielder more first-team opportunities in the coming weeks.
One such could arrive in Spurs’ next Europa League game against Hungarian side Ferencvaros, who slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Anderlecht on matchday one.
Brighton & Hove Albion (Premier League, A] – 06/10/2024
Up-and-coming 31-year-old manager Fabian Hurzeler has enjoyed a sterling Premier League start in Brighton’s dugout, going unbeaten in all five matches thus far (W2, D3).
Arsenal (1-1) and Man United (2-1) couldn’t knock the Seagulls off their perch, highlighting the scale of the task awaiting Tottenham in their first league outing in October.
Spurs can take heart from their decent run of three wins from their last four top-flight clashes against the East Sussex team, though the only loss came in this corresponding fixture in 2023/24 (2-4).
West Ham United (Premier League, H] – 19/10/2024
Tottenham recovered from an early deficit to beat Brentford 3-1 in their first London derby of the 2024/25 campaign and will seek a repeat against out-of-sorts West Ham.
Julen Lopetegui has come under fire after the Irons’ dreadful league start (W1, D1, L3), and it’s uncertain whether he’d last long enough to see Spurs take on his side in the north part of the capital.
If he does, he may draw confidence from West Ham’s recent record against Postecoglou’s troops, with the Hammers unbeaten in three of their last four top-flight H2Hs (W1, D2).
AZ Alkmaar [Europa League, H] – 24/10/2024
With the new league phase in force, every point could prove vital for knockout qualification, meaning Tottenham can hardly afford a slip-up on home turf.
Despite never facing AZ before, Spurs are familiar with Dutch opposition as they boast a promising 75% unbeaten ratio across their previous 20 encounters against Eredivisie clubs (W10, D5, L5).
Crystal Palace (Premier League, A] – 27/10/2024
Another all-London match-up in October takes Postecoglou’s charges to Selhurst Park for a traditionally unpleasant showdown against Crystal Palace.
Following a four-game barren run on this ground (D2, L2), Spurs have flipped the script on their last two visits, winning by an aggregate 6-1 scoreline.
Manchester City [EFL Cup, H] – 30/10/2024
Tottenham’s last trophy came in this competition 16 years ago, so it stands to reason that the EFL Cup holds special significance for the club.
However, they couldn’t have hoped for a sterner test in round four than perennial Premier League champions Man City following a tight 2-1 win against Coventry City in the previous round.
