It has been a superb season for Cesc Fabregas and Como. The Blue and Whites have done well to stay up in their return to the elite division for the first time in 21 years.

Como and Inter Milan will lock horns in their second meeting in the 2024/25 Serie A campaign on match day 38. As of the time of writing, Como have garnered 48 points and they sit in 10th position from 36 games played. Inter Milan have 77 points from the same number of games and are second on the log.

It has been a superb season for Cesc Fabregas and Como. The Blue and Whites have done well to stay up in their return to the elite division for the first time in 21 years. They started the season on a sour note when Sampdoria sent them out of Coppa Italia. In the first four games of the Serie A season, Como were winless (D2 L2). However, back-to-back wins over Atalanta and Verona changed the narrative for them at the time. After those wins, they went nine Serie A games without a win (D4 L5).

The Blue and Whites ended the year 2024 with two wins from three games. Alessandro Gabrielloni and Nico Paz scored in stoppage time to secure a big win over Roma before another 2-0 win over Lecce at home, with Patrick Cutrone and Nico Paz scoring the goals. In the first ten games of 2025, Cesc Fabregas’ side won three games and lost 50% of those fixtures. On match day 28, they were 13th on the log, but still far from being safe.

However, incredible results in the last seven games have helped them secure their place for next season. The Blue and Whites are on a run of six consecutive Serie A wins. In that time, they have beaten Monza, Torino, Lecce, Genoa, Parma, and Cagliari. At the time of writing, they are the most in-form side in Serie A.

For Inter Milan, this is an important game. Simone Inzaghi and his boys would feel that they should have rounded up the Scudetto by now, but they have lost concentration in recent weeks, and that has handed the advantage to Napoli, who have jumped to the top and hold a one-point lead with two games to go.

Meanwhile, Nerazzurri started their Scudetto defense on a bad note, as they were forced to a 2-2 draw at Genoa. After playing 1-1 at halftime, Inter Milan got the lead in the 86th minute, courtesy of Marcus Thuram. But they capitulated and lost the game, courtesy of a 95th-minute strike from Junior Messias. Nonetheless, they recovered from that defeat and claimed two wins on the bounce against Lecce and Atalanta. After that, they went to Brianteo to play a 1-1 draw against Monza. After that game, they lost to AC Milan in the Milan derby. However, they returned to winning ways in their next game, defeating Udinese 3-1. Since then, they have gone on an unbeaten streak. Inter Milan defeated Torino 3-2. Then, they went to Rome to defeat Roma 1-0. They stumbled against Juventus in their next game, where they settled for a 4-4 draw. Once again, they capitulated, surrendering a 4-2 lead.

The reigning Serie A kings have many quality players, and they picked up again in the game that followed with a handsome 3-0 win over Venezia. They then defeated Venezia 1-0 after that, before playing out a 1-1 draw against Napoli just before the international break. Inter then went on a winning run of eight games in their next nine to gain control of the situation. In January, they lost to Milan in the Super Cup final. Back in Serie A, they did not lose until the trip to Florence, where they faced Fiorentina and lost 3-0. Not long after, Juventus also beat them in Turin in mid- February. Since then, they remained unbeaten in all competitions until the defeat to Bologna in April. That defeat started a run of poor form that has seen them lose to Milan in the Coppa Italia semis and lose their lead at the top of Serie A.

Inter, who entered the month of April on the verge of a treble, are currently scrambling for just one title – the UEFA Champions League, where they have reached the final after an incredible performance to knock Barcelona out in the semis. Inter have won their past three games in all competitions, and will need Napoli to slip up again, while they win all their games to win the Scudetto again.

Como and Inter have met just 2 times since 2012, and Inter Milan have won both previous meetings.

Team news

Line-ups

Alberto Dossena, Sergi Roberto, and Assane Diao are sidelined for the rest of the season. In addition, French midfielder Lucas Da Cunha, who sustained a thigh injury against Parma, has returned to feature against Cagliari last time out. Gabriel Strefezza – who has six goals and four assists in Serie A this season – is set to make a mark once again. Tasos Douvikas has also recovered from a foot problem, and he is expected to lead the line.

Como possible XI: Butez; Vojvoda, Goldaniga, Kempf, Moreno; Perrone, Caqueret; Ikone, Paz, Strefezza; Douvikas.

Meanwhile, coach Inzaghi does not have any major injury concerns going into this game. Including Marcus Thuram who has been battling a muscle injury of late, Inter should have everyone available for this crucial trip to Turin. Meanwhile, with the UCL final ahead, Inzaghi might tweak his team a bit.

Inter Milan possible XI: Yan Sommer; Benjamin Pavard, Francesco Acerbi, Alessandro Bastoni; Denzel Dumfries, Nicole Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Federico Dimarco; Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram.

Prediction

This is a big game for Como, and luckily for them, they are in top form for the visit of the defending champions. Como have also secured safety, so this game carries no added pressure for them. Meanwhile, fans should still get their Como tickets early enough because Inter are coming to town.

On the other hand, Inter have won the previous two meetings before now. However, Como have improved since the last time they met, and this will be a real test for the side from Milan. Ambitions are greater on the side of Inter, and that might propel them to end the season with a win, and even the Scudetto should Napoli slip up.
