Juventus vs Udinese preview, team news, tickets and prediction
Champions League qualification chasing Juventus will face Udinese in a Serie A match day 37 clash at the Allianz Stadium on May 18th.
At the time of writing, Juventus are placed 4th on the Serie A log with 63 points after 35 matches. Udinese are 12th with 44 points from the same number of matches.
Juventus, who blew hot and cold all through the campaign, have found some stability in recent weeks to find themselves in a good position to qualify for Europe’s most prestigious club competition. The Turin side started the season on a good note with comfortable 3-0 wins over Como and Verona in their first two games of the campaign under new manager Thiago Motta. The 41-year-old, who played for Italy and Juve’s Serie A rivals Inter Milan as a midfielder, signed until 2027 after replacing Massimiliano Allegri, who was sacked two days after he led the side to the Italian Cup.
After the first two wins, Juve drew the next two games against Roma and Empoli before beating PSV in their opening Champions League game of the season. Back in Serie A, Napoli held them to a goalless draw in Turin before they went away to beat Genoa 3-0 to return to winning ways. Motta’s side did well to beat RB Leipzig in their second UCL game, before going ahead to play another stalemate with Cagliari in Serie A. The Turin side continued to draw games, as they drew with Parma and Inter in two of their next four games in the league.
In Europe, Stuttgart stunned them in Turin on match day three. In the next seven games, Juventus drew five times and won just two, including wins over Torino and Manchester City. Overall, Juve went the rest of 2024 unbeaten before losing to Milan in the Supercoppa semis in January. Motta’s side drew three of the next four games, before current league leaders Napoli beat them in Naples – a first defeat in Serie A for the season. The month of February did not go well for Juventus as they were knocked out of the Champions League by PSV in the knockout stage, while Empoli also sent them out of Coppa Italia.
Motta’s incredible work at Bologna, where he led them to qualify for this season’s Champions League, got him a bigger job in Turin. However, Thiago Motta lasted just nine months at Juventus before the Italian giants sacked him in late March and swiftly appointed Igor Tudor. Motta’s departure came after heavy back-to-back defeats in Serie A, losing 4-0 at home to Atalanta before being beaten 3-0 at Fiorentina. At the time of writing, Juve have won three of their six games under Tudor, but they still stay in contention for the UCL ticket.
As for Udinese, it has been a season where they have struggled to get goals. However, they have managed to stay afloat for another campaign in the elite division. The Friulians started the season with an impressive run of three wins in their first four games of the season. They got wins over Lazio, Como, and Parma, while picking up a point against Bologna. Udine lost three of their next four league games, but advanced in the Coppa Italia after wins over Avellino and Salernitana. After the win over Cagliari in late October, the Friulians won just once in their next eight games in all competitions. Their best spell of the season came between February and mid-March when they went unbeaten in six games (W4 D2).
At the time of writing, Udine recently beat Cagliari away from home on match day 35 to complete the double over them. That win ended a run of six games without a win. Most importantly, they are safe for another season.
In this match-up with Juventus, Udinese have only won once in their past eight Serie A visits to Turin, losing the other seven games. Without a doubt, the home side have the edge, and will be keen to get a win and continue their push for the Champions League ticket.

Team news
Line-ups
Juventus have a huge defensive crisis after Federico Gatti and Lloyd Kelly joined long-term absentees Juan Cabal and Gleison Bremer on the sidelines. Strikers Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik are unavailable for selection. Kenan Yildiz is also out with suspension, while Teun Koopmeiners is still struggling with an Achilles problem.
Therefore, Pierre Kalulu and Renato Veiga could continue in the backline for Igor Tudor’s side. Kolo Muani should continue in attack while Thuram and Locatelli get to feature in midfield once again.
Juventus possible XI: Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Veiga, Savona; Weah, Locatelli, Thuram, Cambiaso; McKennie, Gonzalez; Kolo Muani.
The visitors’ injury list has been piling up in recent weeks, with Florian Thauvin (ankle), Jordan Zemura (calf), Jurgen Ekkelenkamp (thigh), Lorenzo Lucca (calf), and Isaak Toure (knee) are all in the physio’s room. Martin Payero and Kingsley Ehizibue recently served match bans and should be available for selection. Lucca and Thauvin have been important for the visitors this term, but the injuries to them provide an opportunity for Oier Zarraga and Keinan Davis to impress once again.
Udinese possible XI: Okoye; Kristensen, Bijol, Solet; Modesto, Atta, Karlstrom, Lovric, Kamara; Bravo, Davis
Prediction
With just three left to be played, the teams in 4th to 7th are separated by just a point. Juve have drawn many games this season, and their recent result at Bologna has helped them not lose ground on the rest.
Juve have lost just once in their past five matches, while Udinese have suffered three defeats over the same number of games. Apart from last season, when Udinese won in Turin, they have lost in seven consecutive visits. The home side have their eyes on another UCL qualification, while Udinese, who are safe for another season in the elite division, do not have anything to play for.
In addition, Juve have won four of their past five Serie A home games, so they should be able to secure a win against Kosta Runjaic’s side.
Meanwhile, it is important to get your Juventus tickets on time because it is their final Serie A home game of the season.
Juventus 2-0 Udinese
