Spurs Possible Transfer Targets
Well, here we are again. The 19-20 Premier League campaign has come and gone, albeit this time it lasted a little longer than usual. There is plenty to talk about regarding the campaign, but let’s take the time to look out to the future as we head into the summer months. Rumours are always aplenty about who will be the newest players to join the club, and with the transfer window now open, there are sure to be some new additions.
When considering transfer targets we as a fanbase need to keep it realistic this year due to the looming stadium repayments and loss of revenue due to COVID-19. Our lord and saviour Jose Mourinho has stated the team will look to make small improvements, so don’t expect anything crazy. Here are some possible transfers to keep an eye out for that could lead to shorter odds when betting on Bet365 in just a few months time. The crystal ball has spoken to me, so here are my predictions.
Ivan Perisic – Jose Mourinho has reportedly made it clear that Croatian winger Ivan Perisic is on his transfer target list, and for good reason. An outcast at Inter Milan, Perisic spent the season at Bayern Munich but the Bundesliga winners are unlikely to shell out the €20 million transfer fee to make his stay a permanent one. His signing would be a boost in experience for the team and his skills in the air would be a great addition. With Mourinho making it clear in the past that he is a fan of Perisic, his signing would be fitting and somewhat expected.
Can Bozdogan – The COVID-19 crisis has had an impact on clubs all around the world, including FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga. Another midfield player rumoured to be heading to The Spurs is young gun Can Bozdogan. Making his debut for the club in June, he is another midfielder that Mourinho is keen on. With a transfer fee apparently around €9-10 million Bozdogan is in The Spurs budget so he could be heading our way soon, but we will also be competing with Atletico Madrid who are also very interested in bringing him in.
Timothy Castagne – Mourinho has also mentioned that he is looking to strengthen the backline during the transfer window. These comments have resulted in a lot of speculation as to who he is interested and one name has kept popping up. Timothy Castagne is a right-back for Atalanta who has played a major role in their shocking Champions League qualification. The Belgium is reportedly meeting with Mourinho about the move and his addition would bring some great competition for Serge Aurier’s position.
Callum Wilson – Another area that needs improving next season is striker depth and there has been a rumour floating around for a few days about Callum Wilson joining the club. Currently contracted to the relegated Bournemouth, Wilson would provide excellent depth for Harry Kane and potentially challenge for a role in the starting side. Wilson’s £110,000-a-week salary should force Bournemouth to sell him now they are headed to The Championship and this is an acquisition that would make total sense for The Spurs.
I’m excited about what the next 10 weeks will bring. Whether you like Mourinho or not there is no doubt that we finished the season strong, so let’s keep the faith (for now) and see how the transfer market shakes out.
