Leeds United Linked With New Owners
After securing top-flight promotion for the first time in 16 years, Leeds United and the club’s fans are looking forward to the future with a newfound level of enthusiasm. And if you have been wanting to bet on the club’s future prospects at an online casino, then there is great news waiting for you.
Why Leeds Is an Attractive Investment Opportunity
The Peacocks have one of the most high profile coaches at their disposal in Marcelo Bielsa, who serves as an inspiration for the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino. Having played some high-tempo football in the Championship, the club should hope to upset some of the biggest teams in the premiership, once the season starts.
From an investor’s point of view, the club has never been in a better position in the past two decades. The Yorkshire team boast massive fan following, and now that they are back at the highest level of domestic football in England, they will set their sights at redeeming their past glory, which makes them an even more enticing investment prospect.
There have been rumors flying around that current majority stockholder of the club Andrea Radrizzani is willing to sell the club if a sizable offer comes in. Has anyone shown interest in becoming the new owners of the three-time English champions? Are Leeds United going to get a colossal cash injection as if they had won the lottery?Read on to find out.
Who Are The Interested Parties?
According to reports, multiple parties have expressed their interest in buying the club. 49ers Enterprises, which already has a 10% stake at the club, is said to be leading the race for a majority takeover. Do the name 49ers sound familiar? Yes, the sports investment firm owns the NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers, and reports suggest they are set to beat Qatar Sports Investment (QSI), which owns Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
The club hasn’t backed out from voicing their ambitions for next season. Despite a long absence from the top division, the club says they would be fighting for European spots next season. This, of course, has had a positive impact on the club’s appeal.
Financial Times reported last year that QSI is actively looking for an investment opportunity in British football. That said, it can be confirmed that no official approach has been made to the club’s current owners to usher in a change of administration.
Ever since Financial Times reported of QSI’s strong interest in UK football, Leeds United were touted as their likeliest destination. Radrizzani and Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Qatari billionaire and owner of PSG, are close friends. Perhaps, the reports initially stemmed from the relationship the owners of both clubs share. However, Radrizzani later confirmed there is indeed some substance to the QSI claims.
What Does The Current Owner Say?
In a sit-down with The Times, the Italians talked about the connections he has with QSI and that they are interested in taking Leeds United to the levels of Manchester City. He also talked about two other potential buyers without disclosing their identities.
He says one of the offers came in from America. He didn’t namedrop the club’s existing US affiliation 49ers Enterprises. All he said about the American buyer is that he was a Leeds United fan growing up. Is anyone associated with the 49ers Enterprise a fan of Leeds United? We don’t know for sure.
Radrizzani also revealed that one of his compatriots also expressed a keen interest in buying the club. He didn’t reveal his name either but said that he already owns a Serie A club and would love to have a presence in English football as well.
Andrea Radrizzani took the reins of Leeds United in 2017 when his fellow Italian businessman Massimo Cellino had sold the club for $57m. The club had suffered both on and off the pitch under Celliono, but Radrizzani has reinstated a bit of order in the club. He weathered the chaos and has delivered Premier League football to the Elland Road faithful.
The Italian has cultivated a sense of kinship with the club and its community. Therefore, he doesn’t feel any sudden urge to sell the club and even if he does, he says he doesn’t want to be a complete stranger to the club. If the new owners promise him some sort of involvement, the 45-year-old might seriously consider a buy-out proposal.
He hinted at a longer stay at the club after Bielsa and his men finished first in the Championship. He said he might stay on as long as 20 years or even more.
Right now, Radrizzani has control of the club’s 90% stock. The remaining 10% belongs to 49ers Enterprises and the company’s chairman Paraag Marathe occupies a seat in the club’s board of directors.
