Major Football Events that Should Be on Your Radar in 2021
One of the main advantages to being a football fan is that there are consistently big events or competitions happening throughout the year. Whether there are international tournaments, continental tournaments, or simply leagues where clubs compete, throughout the entire year there is usually something to look forward to.
Unfortunately, the year 2020 was pretty much devastating for all sports fans and bettors in general. Due to the big pandemic, all of the main sports events were cancelled, or postponed. Today the degree of uncertainty still persists, but it looks like things are slowly but surely getting back on track. Even if there will be limited attendance at some of the events everyone must be happy that big competitions will likely happen.
So here are some of the major events to watch out for in the year 2021.
UEFA EURO 2020 (in 2021)
Technically this is EURO 2020, it’s just happening in 2021 because it was postponed like many other events. It is said that in spite of the persisting pandemic that the summer championship for the best team in Europe will be held across 12 different cities.
Currently, the competition is supposed to commence on the 11th of June 2021 in Rome, and the finals should be held a month later at Wembley. There were speculations that the organization might change to a single country if the restrictions remain strong throughout the summer, but as of now, nothing is confirmed.
UEFA Champions League Final
This is really the first event that will take place this year and the winner will get the opportunity to play against the victor of the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League and even qualify for the Olympics in Tokyo. It’s really fortunate that this event will take place since big competitions like FIFA U-20 World Cup were cancelled and fans will have to wait a whole year, as it will be held in Japan in December 2021. Regardless of whether there is a big live audience or not, Canadian gambling sites and online betting platforms around the world will start to teem with activity on the 29th of May, as you may know, Canada is very found if this sport. So, this is a great way to start this year and hopefully, viewers will get to see some well-deserved football actions at the Istanbul stadium.
Olympics 2021
One of the biggest disappointments of 2020 was postponing the Olympic games that were supposed to take place in Tokyo. There was a lot of hype for this event especially with all the videos of robots that are going to be there to greet the audience. Luckily, the host of the games has stayed the same, and the prime minister of Japan is determined to ensure the event is not cancelled again. That being said, the veil of uncertainty is still very present, but just like with all the other events everyone is hoping things will go according to plan.
The way things stand now is that the Olympics should start on July 23rd and last until August 8th. When it comes to football there are 16 men teams and 12 women teams that are supposed to compete during this event.
UEFA Super Cup
The Super Cup taking place this year will be the 46th edition of this tournament. The competition will commence on August 11 and will feature 21 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League winners. The tournament will be held in Belfast, so if anyone plans to visit Ireland plan your trip in August this year, assuming travelling is allowed of course.
Conclusion
Everyone who is a fan of this beloved sport definitely has a reason to celebrate this year. There are more events than those mentioned here of course, but these are some of the most enjoyable that we get to look forward to this year no doubt. Hopefully, 2021 won’t have any unpredictable scenarios like 2020.
