A Look Back at History Maker Harry Kane
With his match-winning goal in a 1-0 success against Fulham at Craven Cottage, Harry became Tottenham’s joint-highest all-time goalscorer, matching the record set by Jimmy Greaves with 266 goals.
Kane has been with Tottenham throughout his professional career. He made his debut for the club in 2011 and 12 years later he has established himself as one of the greatest attacking players to feature for Spurs.
The England captain got to 266 goals in 415 appearances for the North London club. He has scored 18 goals in his opening 29 games this season. As of the 24th of January, Kane has football odds of 14/1 to be the top goalscorer in the Premier League this season. He currently trails Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in that race for the award.
Here is a look at some of his most notable goals for the club.
Shamrock Rovers (A) – December 2011
The first of Kane’s 266 club goals came against Shamrock Rovers in a 4-0 victory in the Europa League. It was an important goal as it showed he could deliver for the senior team at such an early stage of his career. Harry Redknapp saw the potential in him. Subsequent managers have also raved about the player, including the latest Spurs head coach Antonio Conte.
Southampton (H) – December 2017
Kane’s goal against Southampton at Wembley in 2017 ensured he ended that calendar year as the top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues. He found the back of the net 56 times, which was more than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema.
Leicester (A) – September 2019
This was a goal that showed Kane can score from any angle and scenario on the pitch. The Englishman tumbled over in the box, but he was still able to get a strike away from the floor to beat Kasper Schmeichel. With this goal, Kane and South Korea international Son Heung-min combined for the most goals in Premier League history. It’s a partnership that has worked so well for Spurs, and one which gives the club a great chance of being successful in the future.
Leicester (A) – May 2021
Kane won his third Golden Boot award in the Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign. It was a close tussle between the Spurs man and Liverpool’s Mo Salah in the closing stages of the season. Both players pushed each other hard. It was the Tottenham striker who landed the trophy after scoring on the final day of the season in a 4-2 victory away to Leicester. That was Kane’s 23rd goal of the competition, leaving him one goal ahead of Salah.
Kane Now Has Alan Shearer’s Record in Sight
It is not just Tottenham records that Kane will believe he can break now, he will also want to become the Premier League’s all-time scorer. His goal in the London Derby against Fulham was the 199th of his career in the top flight of English football.
Alan Shearer ended his record with 260 Premier League goals, which is the record Kane will have in his sight. If he remains in England, and he avoids a serious injury, he could break that record in the next three to four years.
Kane is currently third on the all-time Premier League goalscoring list. Wayne Rooney is one place ahead of him with 208 goals. The Spurs man will be hoping to jump ahead of the former Manchester United and Everton man before the season concludes.
One More Goal to Become England’s All-Time Scorer Outright
Although the game will be remembered for the disappointing results, as England were knocked out of the international tournament, Kane matched Rooney’s record for the most goals for the Three Lions in the quarter-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup against France.
Kane and Rooney both have 53 goals for England. It took Kane just 80 games to get there, while Rooney finished his international career on that mark following 120 games for his country.
England are next in action in the UEFA Nations League away to Italy on the 23rd of March. That could be the game where Kane breaks the record outright.
At the age of just 29, Kane’s best years for Tottenham and England may still be ahead of him. Hopefully, he helps deliver silverware for club and country over the next few seasons.
