Keane Hoping Stubborn Spurs Take Victory Over United

Finding ourselves down in 17th place in the top flight table is not what anyone wanted

The 2024/25 domestic Premier League campaign has turned into another poor and hugely disappointing one for Tottenham Hotspur fans as manager Ange Postecoglou has seriously struggled with the players at his disposal, however, our European adventure has been different gravy and our full focus is on our preparation for the coming Europa League Final with Manchester United.

With one game remaining in the league campaign, finding ourselves down in 17th place in the top flight table is not what anyone wanted, nor expected, when you look at the talent within our first team squad but as we go into the final it is not like our Ruben Amorim opposition have fared much better either this year and this was a big topic of conversation for former Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane as he penned his thoughts for his recent Betway ambassador column on their Betway Insider blog.

The Old Trafford outfit are only a single point ahead of us in the table and occupy 16th place but they have a woeful goal difference having scored 21 fewer times than we have in the league across the year so far. The relative form of both teams going into this showpiece European clash is not the best and neither side have performed as you would expect ultimate finalists to have performed throughout the campaign, but by the same token with both teams sharing woeful recent form if we turn up on the day there is absolutely no reason why we cannot come away with the win and bring the trophy home.

Given his prior ties to White Hart Lane, naturally our 44 year old former striker was tipping us for success at the San Mames Barria, and although he was rooting for us to bring the trophy back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he did not expect that either manager would pull a surprise when it came to the set up or the team selections on the evening.

“Postecoglou and Amorim will stick to their styles. It’s a big week for Tottenham with the Europa League final on Wednesday. I’d love to see them lift the cup at the end of a very disappointing season and I’m sure the Spurs fans would be happy with a European trophy after such a such a long time without winning one, but you still can’t get away from the poor season that they’ve had. They didn’t expect to be in the situation, and neither did Manchester United. There’s no chance that either side should be in their current positions with the squads that they have.”

Keane went on to add.

“I don’t think either manager will change their philosophy for this game. They both seem to be a bit stubborn about the way they play, and they stick to that. That’s their way. I think Spurs’ team looks stronger on paper, and I’m certainly hoping they can come away with the win.”

Taking the win would put a much better gloss on what has been a poor campaign, but given the on pitch performance – allied to Postecoglou’s off pitch issues with the media and a section of the fanbase – you would be hard pushed to think that he will remain in the dug out for the 2025/26 campaign even if silverware is added to our trophy cabinet.
