Jermaine Jenas Tourettes

I have Jermaine Jenas tourettes. Every time he is named in the starting line up I say “f**k sake Jenas”. Every time he passes sideways or backwards when there is a forward pass on I say “f**k sake Jenas”. Every time he stupidly gives the ball away I say “f**k sake Jenas”. All he does is pass sideways and backwards and ‘f**king round about a bit’. Put simply, I don’t rate him and seeing him play for Spurs makes me angry. However, it shouldn’t be like this. How can a man who ran the show and was outstanding when we... Read more »

A Rotating Defence

Squad rotation is a concept that we’re going to have to get used to under Andre Villas-Boas, especially in the centre of defence. The old Redknapp plan of playing the same starting eleven the entire season is a thing of the past; instead, we should expect bigger roles for lesser known players, regular chances handed to members of the development squad and responsibility shifted from the shoulders of the few to the many. One selection ‘headache’ that has been heavily discussed of late is the question of who we think our best possible centre-back partnership is. In my opinion, it’s... Read more »

Brad’s Heir

A new keeper should be high up on the ‘to do’ list for AVB as Brad Friedel is no spring chicken. Perhaps not as alarmingly necessary as a striker or 2, the goalkeeping situation is nevertheless not a very strong one, long-term speaking. Friedel is a relative newcomer to The Lane but he has proven himself to still have much more about him then the recent crop of occupants of the number 1 shirt, and although his reflexes are diminishing on a daily basis, he is still considered to be by far the most consistent and reliable member of the... 1981, Ossie dreamed… 2012, ‘Everybody Dreams!’

The Fighting Cock is pleased to announce its support for ‘Everybody Dreams’: the song for Tottenham, due for release on 19 August 2012. Concerned by the negative images of Tottenham dominating the national and international news last summer, students from Gladesmore Community School in Seven Sisters felt compelled to act. They’ve created a campaign to show the positive side to the area where they live, learn and love. This has culminated in them writing, producing and promoting a song that ‘flips the script’ and shows Tottenham in a positive new light. ‘Everybody Dreams’ already has a string of celebrity endorsements,... Classless Modric

I’ve had a fair bit of stick with regard my views on Luka Modric – I really don’t see why? I’ve never suggested that he isn’t a fantastic footballer or questioned his obvious desire to better himself and career. Not once have said that losing him would be beneficial to the club, or that I’m NOT grateful for his efforts in a Tottenham shirt – even last year when his heart obviously wasn’t in it. ‘Ah yes, his dream move to Chelsea’…I forget – who was their manager last summer!? Funnily enough I think he won over a few doubters... Read more »

Strikers, strikers, strikers

Even the staunchest Defoe follower will admit there is no way on Earth that Jermain could lead the Spurs attack next season…completely on his own…and with Kane looking as if it may take a little longer than we had hoped for him to make the grade in the 1st team (if at all) we have no option but to buy strikers…fast. Links with Sturridge, Adebayor, Lewandowski, Remy, Damiao – and to a (far) lesser extent, Huntelaar, Higuain (dream on) and even Hulk (haha) continue to bounce around the media but we STILL haven’t signed 1, let alone the minimum 2... So rise Black Knight

With all else that is happening in and around White Hart Lane and the organisation that is Tottenham Hotspur, the forthcoming Olympics and some Brit riding his bicycle around France, it feels that the draw for the UEFA Europa League third round went largely un-heralded. And rightly so, some may argue. After all, who cares Georgian cup-winners FC Dila Gori could meet Anothorsis Famagusta – who qualified via a peculiar play-off system in Cyprus – in the next round? It’s a tin-pot cup right? Too many games and not enough prestige. I beg to differ at this point. A quick... Read more »

The Man Who Would Be King

Ledley King isn’t a Tottenham Hotspur legend, nay, he is nothing short of the personification of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. No one man will ever be bigger than the club, but the relationship can evolve past the realms of mutual exclusivity. Until death does them part, Ledley King will be as much as part of the club, as the club is a part of him. In time, he will grow beyond being defined by statistics and throwaway quotes from past opposition, but will instead be spoken of with the same air of grandeur as Bill Nicholson. In the same way...
