West Ham - League cup game

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

How the fuck are people having such a meltdown over this game. Were second in the league, joint top in a very tough champions league group and have utd and real madrid to come in our next 2 games. These are great times to be a fan, we have bigger fish to fry than the carabao cup. Let west ham make some t shirts about this game even though they will inevitably go out in the next round and probably lose on the weekend to palace because all their players are fucked from their midweek cup final.

Next round is played on 20th December as well, we don't need that game.

It's difficult to argue whether we should care about being booted from this cup because it's completely subjective as to whether you care about it. We all care about Spurs, but even Spurs don't completely care about this competition. We kind of half-care. We field a mixed bag. We half-fill the stadium. Other top clubs don't even go that far. There's a lot of evidence that this competition, and even to a certain extent, the FA Cup, are no longer valuable enough appease the majority of fans, the management, the media or to attract or keep players. So, it can be infuriating for those who care when those who don't say they don't, but our club values it less, thankfully, because we have our sights set higher, possibly because reaching those heights will do far more than multiple domestic cups would for those important things like appeasing the fans and retaining players. A domestic cup will be a nice moment for the squad to celebrate together, but let's just say I don't think that's what Harry's talking about when he says he wants to look back on his glory-filled career (Well, actually Harry's probably one of the few that would).

We've got a massive match in the title race in a few days, and then Real. This will genuinely be forgotten in the next few minutes for me.

On a "how can we turn this into a postive" note, it's an ego check in what is certainly the least important match of the season. And Dembele's back!

I’m disappointed we lost in the manner we did. The second half was unacceptable. Not sure why Llorente come off and then Son. It left us with no threat.

If we beat Utd then this will be forgotten about. West Ham aren’t going to win this, so let their 4th round win against Tottenham be the highlight of their season.

It would have been great to win it, we can’t. Let’s move on to the next game. Pochettino will have the players for that second half.

Woolwich fans are entitled and arrogant. They act like the have a God given right to win the top trophies. Is that who we want to be? Not me mate. Every competitive game should matter.

We have a squad with sufficient depth that we can properly compete in all competitions. We fielded a weaker side as it is in this game. That's what depth is for. I don't see why we can't compete with our best players in the main competitions but still field weakened sides that are good enough to win games like this and have a crack at another trophy. We could have and should have won today with this side and without it hindering our PL or CL campaigns. Our weaker side is still better than West Ham's garbage outfit. I don't like the idea that we can't properly raise our profile or become a serious footballing force unless we pretty much give up on the cups. That the cups need to be sacrificed. I can't say I agree with that. I think we should aspire to do both, not least because statistically speaking the better you are in the PL and CL the more likely you are to win the domestic cups, as the list if domestic cup winners over the past 25 or so years has shown. When clubs like Chelsea and Man U have won the League Cup or FA Cups at various times they did it mostly with weaker sides, but they also were able to win major honours at the same time. I'd like us to aspire to be like that.

Nobody has the depth to compete in 4 competitions, that’s why no one has done it yet. We’ve effectively got rid of a scrabster dog, holding us back, whilst trying to shag our leg. I appreciate your romanticism though.

P.S. Glad to see you back.

Already feeling down about this loss and as of two minutes ago I just turned 40. :(
