This whole cup vs league thing does depend a lot on the feeling around the club. Last season we didn't win anything but there was a great feeling because we were winning so many games, playing so well, and outperforming sides who we had no right to expect to beat. When we won the league cup under Ramos, we spent the rest of the season on the beach and being shit. Then the next season started with 2 points from 8 games...

(on the other hand, the individual experience of winning that cup was superb, but then I think we have progressed since then, so winning the league cup now would not feel like such an achievement)

I would disagree, however, that the players would turn their noses up at the FA Cup. I think they want to win it quite badly. Look at their reactions when we lost in the semi last year.

At any rate, I don't think we need to really make these judgments. It's more likely we finish top four and win the FA Cup (which would be a very good season IMO) than finish 6th and win it (IMO).

Champions League and Premier League are a close tie to me. Both would do us incredibly well. Although if Many City are running away with the league by whatever date, I'd love to push harder for a European trophy. All in all, I trust Poch and I think he doesn't value the FA cup as much.

Poch has immersed himself in the club. He will know the importance and value of the FA Cup and how historic it is.

There's no way he wouldn't want to win it. He's played strong teams in the competition. We would have won it if we got past Palace that day and we'd have won it if we beat Chelsea last season.

It falls on a weekend where the league gets a rest. So he will adequately rotate, probably the full backs, central midfield pairing and give Son a run out etc. But he treats it with respect I feel.

Suggesting we would finish 6th in the league because we prioritised the F A Cup is mad. 6 matches to win F A Cup of which some are hopefully against lower division teams unless unlucky. The final is after the league is finished. Just needs to be sensible and pick teams to beat the opposition. No playing a load of youngsters but do not need first 11 against lower division team. This should not affect our league form to drop us to 6th. Really need to look at this subject when we see where we are in the new year.

Would take a top 4 finish and FA Cup, instead of only finishing 2nd or 3rd. Although we look good enough for top 3 again.

*oh and Champions League of course!

Ok I'll set a very simple scene:

We have an FA Cup quarter final against Liverpool on the Saturday.
On the Wednesday we have the second leg of the CL quarter at home against Bayern Munich. We have drawn the first leg 0-0 away.

The following Sunday we have Watford away in the PL, and we sit 4pts off top with 8 games left.

The squad is EXACTLY as it is today, injury wise.

What game would you play your weakest and strongest team?

For me Id go all out in the CL and again in the PL, and Id rest as many players as I could against Liverpool.
If anyone would go full strength in the FA Cup that week, they need their head checked out.

For interest, current best (longest) odds:

Spurs to win:

Champions League 20-1, joint 7th with Juventus.

Premier League 16-1, joint 2nd with Man Utd (that's a tasty bet for the neutral, no chance I'd jinx it.)

FA Cup 9-1, 4th.

That wasn't what you said.

Here, I'll show you what you said...

You even name dropped Chelsea and United. One side we've finished above for the past 2 seasons and the other 1 out of the past 2. We've even finished above Manchester City who fall in the same category.

So your proclamation that we can't compete with our rivals is provably false.
We’ve won 0 trophies compared to their dozens in that time period so no, we certainty haven’t been able to compete.

No idea what this actually means but winning a trophy would mean the world to this talented young team as opposed to another just about season

It means that we have finished above City two seasons in a row, but in that time you dont think we have been competative with them on the basis they won the Carling up two seasons ago.

Weird outlook. Again, the FA Cup would be lovely to win, but this talented young team wont stick around if its our priority. And I wouldnt blame them for joining clubs with greater ambition in that case.

They also won the league 2 times and the FA Cup in the last 5-6 years - so finishing above them means little in terms of competitiveness unless we have some silverware to show for it.

Btw you’ve claimed all along that only trophies can keep our best players and not competitive ‘results’ - so you’re actually agreeing with me?

We finished above them in the League. Therefore, we've competed.

You saying we haven't competed with Chelsea, Man United and Man City in the past few years is one of the stupidest and wrong opinions going.

FYI - The time period you stated originally was ''these days'', don't try now claim you're talking about the last 10 years after the fact.

It is a fact we compete with Chelsea and the Manchester's. You are wrong.

Your delusion is remarkable if you genuinely think we’ve been on par with these teams trophy-wise - go back and read the posts again where I mentioned 10 years instead of resorting to your childish insults. Disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing is getting pretty lame now. Next you’ll be telling me we’re bigger than Liverpool because we’ve finished above them a few times.
