Ex-Spurs Player Toby Alderweireld

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Sad to see him go if it's true. No bad feelings, but on the other hand I wouldn't understand if he moved. City got their defence sorted, he won't get ahead Pique or Ramos (even if he deserved to) and I can't see him playing for PSG/Juve/Bayern. If it's United, then it is laughable.

We need to act fast on this if he doesn't sign. De Vrij is out there and could be the perfect replacement. Transfer window shutting early this summer and fees will be high due to the WC.

Seems stupid for this to come out, whilst he’s returning from injury. Bit like Rose’s interview whilst he was injured.

Toby wanting £150k makes him a higher earner than Kane and Lloris. This would have an impact on other players salaries.

All sounding a bit too much like the walker saga for my liking. This is the kind of shit that effects the squad, and this is such a pivotal time for us. I hope they come out and shut this up, even if it's lies and he does actually go. I just want the press to leave this one alone till the transfer window opens.

He’s replaceable and he’s not half the player withought Vertonghen next to him. Aging, injury prone, and he doesn’t want to be here.

Jan is more important than Toby in my opinion. I love Toby but he's had two lots of hamstring injuries in the last three years that have kept him out for three months at a time if I recall correctly. Get £60m for him and use it to invest in the squad. If he goes to any prem team it's to Man United in a swap for Rashford

If he actually asked for more than Kane, then maybe he should go.
Not in same class as Kane, not as vital to us, and holding us to ransom, knowing our financial situation seems kind of shitty.

Sick of greedy footballers. These are not normal people struggling and looking to better themselves... They are double lotto winners who still are not satisfied.

Hope he goes abroad, strengthening another prem team leaves a bitter taste.

Would rather have Sanchez, occasional mistakes as he learns/matures for the next 5+ years than Toby for the next 1 or 2. All of that with the caveat that Sanchez is partnered with Jan for the next couple of seasons, who'll help iron out said mistakes. We have to look forward. Toby was outstanding last year, but this is the kind of distraction that - I suspect - up with which we will not put.

I think you're being a bit unfair to Alderweirdeld here - he's been the best centre back in the league the last few seasons, and arguably one of the best we've ever had.

Speaking of ageing, Jan is 31 in April and Toby is 29 in March. If Vertonghen is anything to go by, Alderweireld has got at least another 3 or 4 seasons in him...

Would be a massive loss for us. Especially losing him to a top 6 rival, would be a disaster. What message does this send out to our other players? That's two big first team players leaving in consecutive seasons. The squad only weakens when Toby leaves. Look at van Dijk, the fucker cost £75m and is half the player Toby is. We're just not going to be able to replace him with a player just as good - it ain't gonna happen.

Having said all that, I painfully have to agree that if he doesn't want to be here, what's the point.

In my opinion, if it comes down to just wanting more money, and he wants £150,000 a week - pay the man.

We’ve done ok without him, and he’s not going to get a 5 year contract worth £150,000 a week here. I don’t blame him for trying it on, but ultimately his worth is dropping. Have we missed him since he’s been out? Seriously?

Toby, like Jan should be finishing their careers at Spurs but if he is refusing to sign for whatever reason we need to get top whack for a defender that I believe has missed 2-3 months each of the last 2-3 seasons. He'll be 29 and command a top fee. I'd rather him stay but if he wants out let him leave. Get some top drawer players in with the money and evolve just like we have when the Carricks, Berbatovs, Modrics and Bales have. We are a different club these days and if Toby doesn't want to see out his career with this wonderfully assembled squad, I say adios and show me the coin to reinvest

Poch's philosophy has been well drilled so in terms of goals shipped not really. I would say Toby's distribution and those long diags have been missed, he's a much more complete player than the rest, and much more comfortable on the ball going forward.
