MENTAL FORTITUDE

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Sad my comrade you have no empathany with your fellow betheren. These that followed Spurs in a desperate time ,relegation and the old second division. Steadfast and loyal .
Unlike many/most today who would soon Fuck off if we got relegated, especially a global fan base.
Sometimes compassion rewards the soul of human kindness than bitterness and hate .
Smack, though moreish, is generally best consumed in the evening. I appreciate your eagerness, but think you may struggle with your milking duties in your current state

No dairy my friend so thankfully we can sleep easy. The holiday cottages are today's agenda as the bank holiday guests have returned, with today the grey pound taking advantage of this wonderful weather.
Kind regards for your consideration.

Charlie adam has said stoke players were mentally weak this season. What the hell does he know.
He is just a professional footballer. As a football fan & forum member, I am more qualified to say this to be false.

I’d only take Charlie Adam’s word over my own if he was talking about which shop sells the best chips. Otherwise I know best.

What about his advice on what makes your teeth fall out?
But seriously poch has said we have had mental problems before. So I am sorry but I am going to take his word over some random posters & believe that mental strength plays a part in football. But its fair enough if those posters disagree with poch.

For what it’s worth, I agree it plays a part. What I differ on is the contention that we don’t have it. I just don’t think we are always better than the other chaps at scoring the goals. Sometimes we are and we win, sometimes we aren’t and we don’t.

If we had none we wouldn't be as good as we are. But a little bit more of it might make all the difference. Surely poch will have ideas of what we can improve on even if its not mental strength.

Exactly. And I trust him to do so. I honestly think we’ve suffered by not having a home this season and by extending ourselves in the cup competitions. Well, two of them. If we’d been at WHL, we’d have been stronger I think. So I’m happy there’s not much to be done. I’d like a single first team signing in Summer, a younger player for the squad and us all to show some patience.
We’ll keep improving.

You do not always need a strong Captain, Bobby Moore never came over as a tough captain but you do need that character somewhere and that can be the Manager, his number 2 or just a very vocal player. The way we have played better after what was assumed to be a tough half time team talk shows someone said something. Poor mentality is going to pieces after conceding such as Juventus but that is a one off.
I think our mentality is better than before Poch but fail to get CL then I may revise that opinion.

Do we suffer from an institutional malaise? Is our lack of mental fortitude something so native to the club that, no matter the players we recruit, we can never break our routine of weakness? Perhaps, but I am not a superstitious man. There must be an answer.

Poch has been the man to build us up and the players he has developed will fund our transition into a top quality stadium as they are sold for great profit in the coming two years. But looking further ahead, is Poch the man to develop the requisite mental strength for us to bring footballing success to our new home in the long term?

Those are the elephants in the room. There is elephant shit up the walls and trunks hanging out the windows.

I know I will receive abuse for this thread, but it is a topic we must be mature enough to broach if we want to call ourselves true, honest supporters and not Poch and Toby fanboys.

Yo’re ready for the next step: new stadium+ CL , the best to strengthen mental strength

Don't confuse your feeling of relief with a kind of pride in a winning mentality that does not exist in our team.
You know we won last night doncha...?
Against a team who decided to show up after all...? 'Cos everyone had assumed they'd be on the beach by now...

If this Mental INeptitude was so prevalent within our team, we'd have frozen on the night... succumbed to the apparently inevitable... and dropped points (like those West London 'bottlers') the knives would've been out... they were being sharpened at HT last night as it was!

But... as it turns out, our mentality wasn't so broken after all... we scored the goal we needed, then dug in like Trojans...

Yes, it wasn't pretty...
Yes our nerves were torn to shreds by the end ...
But luckily the Team didn't share many fans' sense of inevitable doom and gloom!
But don't let an amazing season (overall) get in the way of a pre-meditared narrative!
Last night was set up for the doom mongers, based on what's happened in the 4 or 5 matches leading up to yesterday's game.

Yes we've faltered in certain higher profile games over the years... but so have MANY teams, richer than us...
Or else Man City AND Chelsea would be playing Liverpool AND Barcelona in the CL final this month!!

We limped over the line. I'm relieved we have proper European football at our new stadium. Nothing has materially changed though. We have shown our weaknesses and they need to be addressed, or next season will be fruitless as well.

Even if you look at last night in isolation, we have so many areas of the park we need to strengthen, and that still doesn't address our emotional frailty. Lots to do.

Adversity? Fuck me, I read that tweet and for a moment I envisaged professional footballers in the way I understood Lieutenant Dan at the end of the movie. You know, he's off the bevvy and he has new NASA grade legs to go with his level headed happy bird. He was like fuck this adversity shit. PTSD? Fuck off. Alcoholism? Fuck off. Physical disability? Fuck off. I'm lieutenant fucken Dan.

Ah Yes, but surely it's all steps in the right direction? A truly mentally weak side may well have panicked last night... or capitulated in the last minute if it was still 1-0 ... as MANY were predicting.

I'm not saying we don't need strengthening... we most certainly do... as do all other 18 clubs bar Man City (who will ALSO probably strengthen!!)

But if the mindset is still: WHOEVER we sign will succumb to the mental fragility in the club, then we have no chance whoever comes in...
Last night went a (small) way to at least addressing that part of the conundrum.
Most wouldn't have been surprised had Newcastle equalised, moments after news filtered through of Chelsea last gasp winner... isn't THAT the way it's always played out before??

Well not last night.
Whilst not a seismic change in our mental fortitude ... at least it was still a tremor!!
