It was a shame as it was Poch's only real chance of a trophy.
Credit to him and the players second half, especially Rose for finding Llorente's strength, but ultimately you can't set up like that defensively first half and lose two goals and expect to go through with no away goals or on pens away from home.
I am being hard here. I don't care about the injuries. 0-0 > 2-1. We didn't need four at the back, a diamond, and a few non-entities up front. It was like having a player or two less first half. Yes, we literally have three less players there, but then you develop a system to do what is needed for anti-football.
Why not five at the back or in midfield? These were reasonable suggestions to work on before the game. I love Poch but he is opposed to pragmatic tactics and switching it up for his players to make it easier in big games or finals. He expects the players to play for him, and in whatever system, but they need help from that system.
If we want trophies that is what is required. Yes, on another day, and yes if we had more players and so on. That is never going to happen. From Levy to the players is all a piece of the pie including ruthless tactical management.
Perhaps Sarri's speech came at the wrong time for us but I felt Chelsea had weaknesses and we gifted them unnecessary opportunities and goals. Sarri should equally be the trophyless manager who needs a striker.
