Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Rabiot is still going to be available on a free ... he's only 24 and despite 'media' comment that he was signed up for Barcelona that is simply not true. Barca may be interested but no deal is done. Having been banished to the reserves since December, after refusing to sign a contract, he's perfect material for a Poch rehabilitation job. He would want a huge salary but that could be partly covered with a staggered signing on fee, 10m signing on fee paid over five years, plus 150k a month in salary.

He can play Central or Defensive midfield, so add Rabiot (24) David Brooks (21) and Jack Grealish (23) and that's Eriksen covered ... probably get enough for Eriksen to cover the transfer costs for all three, however it will add significantly to the wages.

He said: “When you talk about Tottenham, everyone says you have an amazing house but you need to put in the furniture.

“If you want to have a lovely house maybe you need better furniture. And it depends on your budget if you are going to spend money. We need to be respectful with teams like Manchester City or Liverpool who spend a lot of money. We are brave, we are clever, we are creative.

“Now it’s about creating another chapter and to have the clear idea of how we are going to build that new project. We need to rebuild. It’s going to be painful.”

“We cannot live like we lived in the last five years — on the perception side and on the reality side. We achieved a lot of things, we overachieved maybe. Because of our ambition and the way that we work, we’re here now in a very good position.

“But what next? I cannot guess because it’s a club decision. What can we expect now? One question the other day was, ‘is the depth of the squad not at the quality of the new stadium?’

“If we start next season talking about that, nothing good is going to happen in the future. The perception and the feeling are not going to be right.”

“Can we repeat [our achievements] next season? I cannot guess. When we finish the season, I think it’s a moment to close a five-year chapter, to analyse, to talk a lot and to give the real value of that period. It was amazing.

“The problem is: what do we want for the next chapter? Now we’ve finished the training ground and the stadium, what does the club want to achieve in the next one, two, three or five years and what are the fans expecting

Honest John Honest John - you've been vindicated at last

I like Rabiot, but he's a bit of a troublemaker if he isn't playing isn't he? If Poch could work his magic then he'd be just what we need - a tough but creative midfield playmaker. The risk would be if he didn't settle (or accept Poch's way).

Was at Man City as a 13yr old so should be OK from a language/cultural perspective.

he was at city for a few months - (I never knew he was there so googled it) - a holiday rather than acclimatising.

I’m actually looking forward to the revamping of this squad, it is largely past it’s sell by date and we need fresh blood urgently.

“We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with club x for the transfer of player y”

Pochettino’s ethos is built on having hungry, dynamic young and malleable players and the combination of the hangover from the World Cup and lack of transfer activity (or even youth players failing to breakthrough) has left the squad looking very stale.

We need 2 DMs/CMs a RB and an Eriksen replacement. If Toby goes it’s not a disaster either I feel, quality as he is. There are high quality young pros emerging all the time, it’s a matter of us doing a good job finding and recruiting them. We can’t get emotionally attached to players to the point where we think they are “irreplaceable”. There’s really only 2 players worthy of that title. One is 31 the other is 34.

I think this has been Pochettino’s best year as a coach, 18-19 Spurs has definitely been his 2nd worst squad, but our increased experience/progress in Europe has covered this up.

RB is a huge problem area - especially if Poch has decided that KWP isn’t going to make the grade. Trippier we need to cash in on. Youcef Atal this summer and then Max Aarons the year after? Both are classic Pochettino full backs.

We should definitely sign Sessegnon - his stock is low but he’s an excellent modern LWB waiting to happen under Poch. I like both Rose and Davies. It’s not as critical an area as the other flank.

DM - Sander Berge is a no brainer to me - he’s a huge upgrade over Wanyama or Dier (I’m open to either leaving, preferably the former) at this point.

Grealish we should add for pretty much the same reasons as Sessengnon.

For me, if Eriksen does leave we have to be very aggressive and go after James Maddison - I think his ceiling is higher than Tielemans.

Toby is likely to leave and Joachim Andersen does look a solid replacement, unless the club trusts Sanchez/Foyth to plug the gap.

I don’t think even ENIC will mess around this time - all the right noises are being made. The net spend won’t be huge but it never has been (January ‘09 aside).

Not even sure what you'd call him position wise. He started LB but now plays more as a conventional left winger/forward doesn't he? The opposite of Rose and KWP who switched from winger to fullback, and more of a Bale type switch from what I can tell.

He’s not got the x-factor/ attacking quality to be a Bale type forward at the top level IMO. In the championship that’s fine, but he looked lost at times this season. Much like a young Rose did as a pure winger.

Sander Berge is a similar player to Rabiot without any of the baggage.

surely a player drops down the list to be eclipsed by similar level talents that haven't got the baggage

True. But to land the similar player, we'd basically be looking at the £70 million plus for the likes of n'Dombele.

If our flirtation with him in January was true, apparently we were looking to offer a significant signing on bonus, to offset the reduced wages.

He is clearly a bit of a tit, but I'd still have him - he's good.

Pochettino, once again

Dele is one of the last, if not the last player Poch wants to sell, he will play a vital part in our future. He will probably be back to his best after a decent summer break.
What about the summer before last season then? Hasn’t been at his best consistently since we beat Chelsea at WHL and he scored two.
The stand out games in the 2.5 years since are Real and Liverpool at Wembley.
Struggling to remember much else and even his World Cup was crap.
