Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'm reminded of one of the few nice things to come out of Mourinho's mouth. He said of Azpilicueta something I feel would apply to Winks.

If we had 11 Winks', we would win a major trophy every year :pochohshit:

Obviously not as in 11 of him in physical stature and football skill set, but in terms of mentality. Calmness, grit, anticipation, awareness, attitude, vision etc.

Anyone who has ever kicked a ball at any kind of level can recognise the talent he has, the best players don't need more than two touches. His first touch is far more often than not, immaculate and he makes the right decisions. Unreal football brain.

Very soon, I have no doubt that some of the biggest clubs in the world will be falling over themselves to sign him for however many millions.

Compared to other players of a similar age and mould, he actually dribbles more than most, but I'd still like to see him do more of it and get forward and have a crack, because he can wallop a football. I don't know if he's been asked to play that water carrier role or not, but he's just an absolutely fantastic footballer.

If we had three of him, there's a fair chance the other team wouldn't get a touch tbh.

4th highest passing accuracy in the League, 2nd central midfielder behind Kovacic by a massive 0.2% with Winksy making at least 6 more passes per game on average. In fact, there isn't a player who passes the ball more on average who passes more accurately. The closest is Gundogan and City pass the fucking ball to death.

Hey bus-conductor bus-conductor 'member we were talking about 8s and pressure? I'd say something like this illustrates the difference:

Situates his body calmy between the presser and the ball so that even running back toward his goal he was never in any real danger whatsoever. It reinforces my point that anyone comfortable on the ball understands that 1 defender should not be able to dispossess a person in possession (excluding take-ons).

We need more of the first and less of the second.

Not sure why your tagging me brother, I've been banging this drum for most Poch's tenure, I'm one of the few that wanted an 8 the could move the ball quicker and with more verve than Dembele.

It's people still including these fucking smacked up Rhinos in any midfield space who really need your help:

If you gave me the choice I would go with Ndombele + Lo Celso, assuming Eriksen is gone. Why? Because although it would lack a pure DM it would give me a feisty 3 of Winks, Nd, and GLC (Sissoko as well) and a more stout 3 by removing Winks and inserting Dier while retaining the footballing aspects of the MF.

Get thee over to the Sissoko thread and point out what emperors with clothes on actually look like and stop busting my chops.

Not busting your chops just tagging you while illustrating to the wider audience so folks stop asking for dele et al in MF when they can't handle pressure. What I liked about De Jong and didn't about Barkley is De Jong dribble to space to safely deliver a good ball whereas Barkley had the touch open to space but instead passed the buck. I like the active choice.

Not sure you remember but I was banging on about Tolisso long before he went to Bayern.

It’s a species that English football has really struggled to produce generally. It was one of the reasons I would love to have seen Onomah given a chance. I know he looked a bit uncomfortable stuck out on the wing in his little first team cameos, but through his youth career I can’t remember ever seeing him pressed off the ball, he had that combo of body strength, dexterity and technical ability, in some youth games he had a swan like quality - they could also be seen at the U20 WC where he shone.

There’s others coming through in England now, it’s whether they see enough daylight to develop that’s the problem.

And let’s be honest, DeJong is clearly pretty special, not a simple 8 either, there’s a bit of 4 and a smattering of 6 too, just an all round uber CM in the making no?

Jan will be 33 next season and has missed most of this season through injury. With Toby potentially leaving we could potentially see Sanchez / Foyth / Dier as our CB choices.....and dare I point out that Sanchez has been injured frequently this season.

Clearly we need a long term left footed CB to replace Jan. With Jan's injuries; I'd suggest an experienced young CB should be brought in now.

If Sanchez can stay fit next season, he is clearly our number 1. But if there is prolonged absence through injury Foyth and Dier are clearly not options if we want to compete at the highest level.

I honestly have never understood the whole needing to have a left footed CB on the left hand side of defence. It's a nice to have but is it vital??

Players like Candela made a massively successful career for themselves kicking with the opposite foot from the side they operated on and that was in a more marauding full back capacity so I don't get why this lust for a left footer in central defence is seen as an absolute must.

Is De Ligt and Van Dijk a left foot/ right foot partnership? Do all teams adhere to this or is it blown out of proportion? Personally I'd prefer two better quality right footers than settling for someone even 1% worse because they have a left peg. At an attacking level the foot you use can be key but I don't buy into the theory that it's a genuine must for someone either spraying it backwards, sideways or long or someone there to clear the teams lines etc

It's of most benefit when tackling. If you have Mo Salah dribbling past you on your left side; do you really want to slide in with your weaker foot? Or use you right foot which forces you to have a stright leg and reduces your movement - Try it yourself and you will see what I mean.

Same goes for blocking crosses. The reaction time is slower when you have to step across your body and the tendency to turn your back is higher as you instinctively use your stronger foot.

We were linked with Tyrone Mings the other day

I'd prefer Ake
