Always considered Palace one of those teams that won’t pull up trees but you hate to play against.
They finished the season quite comfortably. Woy had them playing a style of playing that teams like us hate to face without going complete bus parker.
Could add some grit to midfield.
I like Van De Beek. Tidy with the ball and a good passer. Versatile in terms of position.
I've seen £53m in Marca but that seems crazy high considering De Jong went for £67m.
Reminds me a bit of when Mane, Tadic and VvD were still at Saints. Everyone regarded them as midtable level players and won't cut it at top level.
Maybe because he's ex-Chelsea or some think we ought to be aiming higher and go for De Ligt.
He would be a decent addition to the squad but not the sort of signing that would take us to the 'next level', whatever that might be.

I like Van der Beek but I'd bet he's on our 'plan B' list. Unfortunately, I could see Ajax putting way too high a price on his head as well.
Sure, Bournemouth have not had a great year defensively. But majority of Bournemouth forums are saying that they would have let in double the amount of goals without Aké.

I'm also loathe to write off any centre back's career progression at that age considering the path Van Djik has taken.

CBs tend to come of age slower and also play longer than other positions, but people want to kick them to the curb if they haven't reached their level.
To your point, if you told me VVD would be one of the top CBs in the world in 2016 I'd ask you to pass the crack you were smoking. Took him until 26 to really reach his potential.

I like Ake but £40m is too high, even with his homegrown status. £27-30m with an addition £4-6m in add-ons seems about right.
We've bid somewhere between £0 and £53m, apparently...
