I understand what you're saying about waiting to judge the window and I agree but Poch has also been on record this week saying he wishes for Eriksen to stay with us, maybe that will still happen, I don't know.
What I do know is that if we go into the season having sold Rose, Trippier, Toby and Eriksen that leaves us short four first team players with no guarantee that their replacements will hit the ground running or be of equal quality.
I don't rate Trippier that highly at all but I was thinking he would be a good option from the bench for us, rather than outright selling him, just get a higher quality player in and give him some competition, same with Rose.
Also, if we are going to replace Eriksen isn't it better to get a player in to give him some competition and see if whatever player we bring in is actually good enough to replace him? Same thing with Toby.
I just think it's a very risky strategy to sell first team players, especially when we need squad depth more than ever and these first team players have been imperative to our success so far.
I understand Levy wants to raise funds for more purchases but we have a bunch of players on our books frankly doing nothing for us, we should be focusing on selling them at whatever price we can get for them and reinvesting that money instead.
Many transfers happen because the players want them - Eriksen has run down his contract to one year and Poch is on record saying (in effect) that he would like Eriksen to stay. Rumours are that he has been offered a contract with a much enhanced wage packet (he's turned down probably two or more in the past which is why he is down to one year currently). It seems not to be a money thing - his dream has always been to play at Madrid.
If that's the case, then not sure Poch/Levy can do anything more. We prefer not to sell but if the player wont sign, we cannot forgo the £80m or so (we are well off but not that well off), so need to sell. Even though that's not our choice.
Toby (or rather his agent) is clearly very money orientated, and his contract antics have clearly been a distraction over several transfer windows (will he or will he not go), so whilst its not from a footballing point of view, I'd not be surprised if the club now wants him to go to realise some value from him - he's declined to sign several contract extensions. Sadly it would not surprise me if Toby has overplayed his hand and that there is little or no financial benefit in turning down the lucrative offers from Spurs in the past - back of the envelope calculations suggest he's circa £10m wages down on where he could have been so far. And that's difficult recoup at age 30 with a playing expectation at the top of maybe 2 or 3 seasons.
Trippier - No idea what's happened behind the scenes but it may be that the comments from a group of so called supporters has made him decide that he wants out. Again its not a club decision (although it could be) more a player decision that he wants to move on.
Rose has always said he wants to move back up north for personal reasons (family friends etc), so again if he's on the move I'd suggest that its a player decision, and the club would probably prefer him to stay another year or so (and indeed offer him another contract).
So I don't think you are correct in assuming that the club is intent on selling all the players you mention - one or two maybe but certainly not the others like Eriksen.
And the reason for selling players is sometimes financial, but as often its going to be that with only 17 overseas trained players allowed to be register in the squad, one or two of them need to go each season to either improve the squad or to reduce the average age of the squad. That's life inevitably
