Love coming on this thread now
I’ve been a Spurs supporter for 25 years. Poch has been the most successful manager at this club in that time by quite a margin. He has broken records, he got us playing attractive football, he’s broken us into the “top 6” and he’s got us closer to winning a trophy than anyone in years and it’s been consistent. The two League Cups we won were out of the blue and while fantastic, didn’t mean anything to the success of the club. The games against Man City and Ajax last year were probably the best games of football I have seen in my life time. Not based on our quality, but based on sheer excitement. I thank Poch for that.
This club has made huge strides in the last decade. We’re up against billionaire owned clubs and clubs that can pay their players anything. Spurs is as much a business then a club and we just don’t have the huge fan base or pockets that the other top 5 have. There was a time when I was kid, that getting a Spurs jersey was ridiculously hard as all the sports shops just had Liverpool and Man U jerseys. The growth in this club is on an upward trajectory, regardless of the current situation. Man United, Liverpool and Woolwich have been top clubs for years and Chelsea/Man City have spent billions to get the trophies they have over the last 15 or so years. Love him or hate him, Levy has grown this club more every year he has been in charge.
I think people need to take a second and take a step back. We’re going through a rough patch, there’s no doubt about that. I personally think this is way more a player issue than a manager issue. We’ve got old and tired players who’s hearts aren’t in it anymore. How can you manage players like that. Look at the amount of early goals we have let in this season; is Poch the reason for that? No. And in every game that’s happened, it’s had a hugely detrimental effect on the tactics and the players motivation to kick on. We should of revamped this squad 18 months ago but who’s the reason why we didn’t; not Pochettino. What happens if we do get a new manager in? We’ll probably get an upswing in results fairly quickly due to the increased positivity but this will be heavily dependent on who we sign e.g Mourinho. Then what are they going to do at the end of the season? They’re going to do the exact same thing Pochettino wants to do at the end of the season and that’s revamp this squad. One more thing to add on that, of the three major signings Poch made in the summer, it’s only Ndombele he’s been able to play in any major capacity due to injuries. Poch has essentially been given one new player to work with in 2 years! TWO F&@&$@N YEARS!! Who else in world football has been given such a handicap and not to mention the joy of playing in the joyless Wembley stadium.
We’re out of the League Cup, EPL is already out of reach, and let’s face it, it would be a miracle if we won the FA Cup or Champions League this year (it would be ironic if we do win something though). So the question is, what do we fear losing more; Champions League football next year or a consistent manager in Pochettino? I fear losing Pochettino more. I don’t think anyone can do a better job at revitalizing this club than Poch. LoCelso and Sess are still to come in and then cancers of the club such as Eriksen are still to be given the boot. Far to easy in this modern age to point the finger at Poch and kick him to the kerb, he deserves a chance to fix the issue. If I was Levy, I would be playing the long game.
Poch, if you’re reading this (yeah right lol), you’ve got my support.
COYS!!
