Supporters Rudiger claims he heard monkey chants

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Chanting, he said, wasn’t it? I think his gesturing to the ref was getting his point across the fact that racist abuse was heard.

He also claims to have SEEN monkey gestures.

European football’s anti-racism protocol had to be implemented for the first time in the Premier League yesterday when Chelsea’s Antonio Rüdiger said that he had been subjected to monkey gestures during the club’s 2-0 win away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Rüdiger, 26, mimicked the gesture that he said had been directed at him and reported the abuse to his captain César Azpilicueta, who in turn informed the referee Anthony Taylor. That led to three separate announcements over the PA system at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, telling fans that “racist behaviour from spectators is interfering with the game”.

I don't think Rudiger lied... but c'mon, if you're gonna make allegations like this you should be damned sure that it happened. If it did, then it would clearly be on video and the allegations proven, especially the 'monkey pose' thing.
I mean, if you think it happened you think it happened. People can be sure and be wrong. Rudiger isn’t the problem here.

Has it been made clear yet what Rudiger actually claims to have heard?

Surely that would help when conducting any lip-reading tests.....?
He claims to have seen Monkey gestures, no lip reader is required for that.

A definitive statement would be nice, given the shit-storm in progress.....

When the club say inconclusive that basically means they have found nothing (yet). Gestures would be easy to spot. The lip reader has not been able to say conclusively that anyone verbally abused him (yet).

But a Chelsea fan racially abused Son and was arrested.

There is going to be some serious egg on a few faces.

Wow... This thread is an utter embarrassment... I think everyone agrees it sucks that our club is now being lambasted in the media, before due process and arrests made .etc.. but that really is just the way it is now, get used to it... There were headlines for Yeovil V Harringay...

It's still an important issue in football and it needs highlighting wherever it's reported. My hope like everyone's it that it's a misunderstanding, but after the England game all the Bulgarians at the ground were on twitter saying they never heard anything.

Either way, you want due process for Spurs, why won't afford Rudiger the same? Instead many are skipping straight to not believing him or insulting him... Why can't you wait till the investigation is complete, before saying "any evidence yet?" or other such comments..

What you are showing is 'Conformation Bias' because you looking for any opinion (or in this case lack of option) that proves no racism occurred yesterday, because that's your pre-existing view of the events. You're not being open minded enough to accept it could happen.

please can the posters below tak a long hard look at themselves, as if anyone from outside spurs looked at this forum what would they make of us all???

Or heard what he wanted to here?
Any evidence that this happened yet? Or any corroberation? Or are we skipping straight to self-conviction on the word of one guy out of 65000?
Chelsea fc are pretty quiet on this issue other than the player himself who’s now at the point of no return with his accusations his employers are to me anyway far too quiet, erm wonder why?
Also, has any other player said they heard anything?
Its also possible it was a tactical fabrication

Anythings possible. And I hope its properly investigated and not just paid lip service to in order not to rock the boat
We all know Rudiger has a habit of cheating and he also lied about Roma fans being racists.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was just trying to run the clock down.
What evidence is there that any racist chanting occurred?

A cheating cunt like Rudiger’s word?
Could this be gamemanship from a Chelsea player? Could it be an attempt to smear the name of Tottenham Hotspur?
If it can be proved that a fan or fan(s) were racist the penalties are obvious and for the club and authorities to apply. Until then everyone is innocent until proven guilty.
There is nothing clear, there is no evidence, there are no others that saw or heard a thing.
This is why Rudiger used the race card. Even the most hardcore Spurs supporters get on their knees and wave the flag without a single shred of evidence while he looks like Martin Luther King Jr.

I would also like to know when Rudiger said gestures were made. Did I miss that?

Presumably they have found the bulb who threw something at Kepa anyway. Make an example of him by all means.
That was spectacularly cretinous. We're two goals down, playing poorly with ten men and we have a rare chance from a direct free kick on the edge of the box. Just as Eriksen is lining up the shot you hurl something at the opposing keeper, because obviously that is going to fine tune our player's concentration

I take it you have seen the club statement and you are aware that there is NO evidence backing Rudigers claim?
There’s only one embarrassment here.

Looking forward to reading the 8 page Twitter statement from the PFA on the racist abuse of Son for the 2 time in a row by Chelsea fans at our ground.

:sonhmm:

When all of this drama comes down from an allegation by a player we all hate in a football sense anyway, I don't think the reactions are at all surprising.

There's an air to all of this that the critical accomplishment of football anti-racism policy is bringing every last supporter to heel in speaking the party line in condemnation constantly no matter the circumstances. That will never happen and might well be counterproductive.

But punishment for the offenders can happen on a reliable basis, and should, and will, and ultimately that's what requires support. I have no interest in sitting next to someone who would behave that way, and one hopes we can get to a place where racist assholes wouldn't dare do such things for fear of the fans around him, rather than the authorities.

Is this not the least bit suspicious to people?

The fact that we have said nothing about this yet released a statement saying how brilliant our cameras are. Well if they're so brilliant how come they havent picked out the cunt throwing objects? And if they have then why are we not mentioning it?

I actually don't like the statement we have put out one bit.
