Bought: Ndombele, GLC, Sissoko,
Wanted: Grealish, De Jong,
Insisted: Winks as hybrid was DM enough.

When's the last time we were linked to a proper DM?

He went full-on stubbornly dedicated to the diamond when we got Lucas up to speed..... He spoke about wanting to play 2 strikers.
That whole first stanza we don't 'know'. DL bought those players we don't know who Poch wanted as they are just what we got. And linking means nothing. The English press is shit and untrustworthy in these matters. But now because they serve the narrative we are pushing they should be considered paragons of truth and journalistic integrity?

We could only know what Poch wanted if we heard it out of his mouth then (somewhat confounded by wanting to stay employed) and spoken freely now (also confounded but by hindsight and revision).

Were the players for DM too expensive? Was he offered any? We don't know.

What we know is that he played the diamond with the broken down players we have now. If Wanyama were healthy in your estimation would he be playing Winks at the base or would Vic be there? Or do you think it would be more likely he would be playing 4231 with Vic and Ndom? One situation looks like a bandaid and not a preferred tactical plan.

My feeling is he went to the diamond to get his guys on the field and minimize risk. He even said his tactical adjustment since we had no MF was to play over the MF. Those are not the words of a man that feels he has the MF that he wants.

And as you often point out why would he say anything other than saying yes to playing with 2 strikers? He always backed his guys. He wasn't gonna say 'nah, 1 of them is shit' right? He was loyal.

So correlation equals causation then? Nice to know. Were there other factors to consider there Sammy? It also correlated with Vic going and Dembele going.
What I’m getting at is that we used to play well with certain tactics and a formation.
Then we changed tactics and formation and became very shit.

It’s as simple as that.
There were lots of factors involved. The biggest being that the players didn’t know what the fuck they were meant to be doing, but the manager didn’t seem to care.

The second biggest problem was that training people like they are Navy Seals soon catches up on the body and everyone ended up injured and now some will carry those injuries for the rest of their careers due to being overplayed because the manager refused to rotate outside of the full backs, unless forced to.

We were actually playing exceptionally well before Christmas 2018, then we lost to Wolves, and for the 5th season in a row, our manager couldn’t raise his team, raise morale or instill a winning mentality, and we capitulated.
No we weren't. We played shit that whole front half of the season. We got points but our play was a harbinger for things to come. We were awful. If I was BC here I would get out the stats to show you how shit our chances created etc etc. We were awful but folks didn't care because we had a record points haul. But it was bad and we've been bad. But this revisionist take sure does 'support' you Sammy-summer position.

How funny you believe that but still think Poch is a great manager

From what I can see, he’s only played two 90 minutes in the league this year, (213 minutes in total) one of them as a second striker. And hasn’t played a single minute as a CM.

I know fuck all about him, have watched the tiny bit of YouTube out there. But this seems like a really odd use of a non HG squad space.
Well, luckily we don't play with a MF so he should fit in. As long as he takes Dele's spot.

Wait, why the heck are we bringing in 21 yo CM who has played like total of 3300 minutes of men's football in Portuguese league?

I admit, I don't know much about the kid, but he does not look to be defencive midfielder. What does he offer that combination of Ndombele and Lo Celso does not offer (yeayea, except availability in Ndombeles part)??

Just have the feeling that this position is relatively decently covered while we have exactly 0 decent DMs. Ofc it might be that we are at the same time working on buying DM as well and Gedson is seen as alternative and competition to Ndombele (with Lo Celso seen more as Eriksen replacement) in which case I withdraw my objections / doubts.
