"Massive changes? No. Not massive changes. First of all because that is not what we think we need. Secondly because of the profile of the club. Third because of what the market is. Year after year after year it is more difficult."

What else do you expect Mourhino to say when he has to rely on the existing players for the remaining two and a half months of the season ?

'You are on your bike soon' would go down well wouldn't it ?

Updated contract termination dates after Wanyama and Eriksen leaving.

2020 Vertonghen
2021 Tanganga, Dier, Rose,,Skipp (excluding Gedson whose loan ends 2021)
2022 Lloris, Gazzaniga, Aurier, Foyth, Lamela, Austin, Whiteman
2023 Alderweireld, Son, Sissoko, KWP, Clarke, Parrott, White
2024 Kane, Dele, Winks, Sanchez, Moura, Davies
2025 Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon, Bergwijn

2020 Contract Terminations - Vertonghen leaving is probably a near certainty

2021 Contract Terminations - Need to sort out Tanganga and Skipp next contracts. Dier's future probably depends upon whether his fitness seems to be recovering over the remainder of the season and indeed other incoming/outgoing players in the CB/DM positions. Rose will go one way or another imo.

2022 Contract Terminations - With 2 years left to run on contracts. probably only Austin (youth GK) is almost guaranteed to be here next season. All of the others may stay or go - Lloris rumoured to want to wind down in MLS, but is that next season or the season after only the player and club know. Lamela only training for 2 consecutive days since Mourhino arrived tells its own story, whilst Aurier can be brilliant and a big liability in the same game, so stick or twist with him.

2023, 2024 and 2025 Contract Terminations - Most will stay and its very much under the club's control as to whether they want to upgrade any of the players and move them on. Maybe question marks over whether club would consider selling Sissoko at age 30 to get a fee or retain him and get no fee when he leaves.

Worth noting that there are already 17 players on contracts which will have 3 or more years to run at the start of next season (excluding Tanganga and Skipp whose contracts will probably be extended before then) which is a good position to be in. And any new players coming in will doubtlessly have longer than 3 years on their contracts, so its likely we will have 20+ players on contracts with more than 3 years to run - good squad management.

Exactly, however its odds-on Kane departing in the summer. Im told Son wants out also. This season is a write-off. The big question is 'do we want a rebuilding process with Mourinho in charge?' I can't think of anyone less qualified for that project. Jose is a big money signing man who wants instant success. He doesn't play youngsters and his recent record in management is awful. How many Man U fans would want him back? Probably Levy's worst ever decision recruiting him. Only a guess but this time next year we are just above mid-table and out of all competitions. Jose, making trouble with the owner and the players gets the sack and another big pay-off. Sound familiar?

looking forward to Coronavirus being used as an excuse as to why we can't sign players this summer
I like how people act like the club hasn't spent £170m on players in the last two windows without selling anyone that wasn't already leaving or wasn't in the clubs plans.

I'm not saying that we don't need to spend in the summer - we need a RB, DM and ST, at a minimum - but this is not 2016-2018 anymore. The stadium is built, the club has easily manageable debt, and revenues have gone from £210m in 2016 to a projected £459 in 2019, 4th in the league.

People can blast Levy but he has spent money recently.

Most of that is probably familiar to a troll, yes

Kane and Son both leaving and club in crisis with a bad manager, bad chairman, what else can you make up.........,WUM

It's crazy how unbalanced this squad is - we've got 5 first team centre backs (Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Tanganga and Foyth) yet only one first team right back (Aurier) and one first team left back (Davies). In midfield we have SIX players who can play as one of the midfield two (Lo Celso, Winks, Ndombele, Sissoko, Gedson and Dier) yet only ONE who is capable of playing as a DM on his own (Dier). Despite all that depth in midfield three of them are always injured, Kane is our only striker, Dele and Lo Celso our only options at number 10.

Personally I would get rid of Vertonghen, Lamela, Vorm, Dier, Aurier and Foyth. I'm torn on Dele because I get the feeling if we get rid of him he will recapture his form somewhere else. Would also loan out Sessegnon.

For the incoming players, we need a lot
- First Choice Right Back
- Back up Right Back
- First Choice Left Back
- First Choice Centre Back
- First Choice DM
- First Choice Winger/AM
- Back up Striker

Obviously that is a lot of regeneration so that would be needed to be done over the course of a couple of windows, maybe prioritising the RB, CB, LB and DM in the next window. Of Course that is still a lot to ask for and knowing us it won't happen but we need to rejuvenate this squad.

It's true. I saw him in the kebab shop a few weeks ago.

So, looking at our current squad’s contracts, I think in the next 12 months:

We are going to need a new GK. Lloris’ contract expires in 2022, we need to get a replacement in.

We are going to need a new RB, maybe 2 (I’m not sure if we have one in the academy or not who can play here barring like Tanganga), Walker-Peters isn’t rated and Aurier’s contract expires in 2022.

We are going to need a new CB, maybe 2 depending what happens with Dier’s future. Foyth surely will leave this summer and Dier’s contract expires in 2021.

We have to decide if we can trust Sessegnon and Davies as our LBs going forward. Maybe Cirkin can take some game time here, but we may need a new LB.

We need a DM, probably two of them since we don’t have any under contract. Dier is just a CB, at most emergency cover here.

We probably need to make a decision on a big player to sell without CL footie since that seems like a near certainty. I would vote for Dele since he has stagnated and I think Lo Celso can outperform him in the same role. We’re going to need some outgoing to fund some of these incomings. The only issue is this hurts us from a HG perspective.

We have to bring in a backup striker since Parrott almost certainly will go out on loan next season.
