I'm rather concerned that Wolves have decided to replace him, why are they deciding to sell?
I wrote this yesterday:

"About Doherty, there is something else to consider from Wolves' point of view: Adama Traoré's exceptional season.

Playing as a RW - and basically, as a traditional old school RW - he became their main threat on the right. Also, to accommodate him in the team, Nuno changed the formation from a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-3, which left their midfield a bit more exposed.

Perhaps with Naitland-Miles Nuno will ask his WB's (or at least one of them) to play also through the middle - a bit like Walker does for City."

(Add that to the fact that Doherty is 28, played for Wolves for a decade and this is probably their last chance to make a profit on him)

Skriniar has been dreadful this season.

But he doesn't suit a back three which Conte prefers.

If Inter want Kante, I could quite easily see Chelsea getting Skriniar in return - then they really would mean business.
Interesting. How do you think he'd suit the back-three-in-possession setup that Mourinho seems to be going for?

Or would the back-four-out-of-possession be fine for Skriniar (even with Doherty bombing up down the right wing and having to get back)?

Certainly interesting and somewhat contradictory in terms of links.

Doherty has only ever excelled in a 3 at the back formation.
Skriniar has been dogshit in one.

We don't tend to play 3 at the back.

Though with Sanchez, Alderweireld and Dier now being preferred to centre back, Davies being loved and playing in a back three for Wales. Rumours of Sessegnon being highly praised by Jose and links to Doherty etc - I wonder if it's something we're looking towards...

Lloris
Sanchez - Dier - Alderweireld
Doherty - Lo Celso - Hojbjerg - Sessegnon
Bergwijn
Kane - Son
With Davies, Tanganga and Foyth being depth for centre back. Davies and Gedson being back up for our wing back positions. Perhaps even Lucas considering his monstrous performances defensively outwide last season.

Chilwell isn't anything special to be honest.

Certainly not worth £50,000,000.

I'm sure people just see 'NEW SIGNING' and '50 MILL' and get depressed it wasn't us wasting money on an average player.

I can understand people getting upset over Werner and Ziyech (even though we have Kane and Son) - but Chillwell, really?
Completely agree re: Chilwell's valuation. It's likely a case of compounding frustration as rival fanbases look over at what Chelsea is currently doing - we aren't the only ones growing a bit restless as they keep adding high priced player after high priced player (United fans especially).

Two notes:

Skriniar could play in a back 3 - if he was used centrally; Conte prefers Stefan de Vrij for the role. Skriniar's main issue there has been playing as a RCB, especially because Inter's main options for RWB (Candreva and D'Ambrosio) are slow players and not very good defenders.

At Tottenham, Skriniar would play in a back 4 - most likely as a LCB (the position he played most games in his career). In possession, like Toby and Dier when they were used in this role, he would became the central defender of a back 3 - Davies on the left, Toby on the right.

He wouldn't have to cover for Doherty, for example.

I think that we will be playing the same lopsided system that we did last season but with Doherty playing the aurier role. It suits a RWB in my opinion even though it’s not a standard back 3 it does function as one in possession.

This link only makes me more certain that there is no magic 433 system waiting in the wings for Jose, it will just simply be what it was last season with some upgrades in personnel.

Hope I am wrong though as I think it makes us quite predictable going forward.

Doherty would be a good signing. I don't see us getting him for £12m though. Somewhere closer to £20m would be nearer the mark imo.

I think - and unlike you I hope - you're right.

Toby is pretty wank in a back three too.

Suits DIer though, I feel.

During Peak Poch that DM role really wasn't so terribly different than being the middle man in a back 3.

Needed a guy who can read the play in front of him, make decisions in tight spaces, get the ball and have some quality playing the ball to teammates. When Dier is on form, that's his skillset.

He's less adept at the classic center half skill of turning his shoulders, covering space, and making a play against threatening runs behind/beyond him. Ledley King was a god at that, and Toby is also outstanding at it.
