Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We need to remember age and speed is subjective and individual. Players like Owen are done way before others as their sole attribute is pace. Ledley showed that 'reading of the game' is a better attribute that extends your career. Also one player might have still be faster and fitter at 30 than another at 28. Look at James Milner, sure he's done now but he's 34!

When we get into Aurier is 27 but Doherty is 28, the age argument for me is moot.

There's nothing to say we can't get 3-4 very good seasons out of him with some resale value retained.

but is that how it works? I thought the manager generally identified areas where improvements are needed. It is then the job of the scouting and development crew to identify suitable players that have the stats and attributes that the team need. These options are then presented back and if (they are deemed good enough,) suitable clubs and agents are contacted.
Some people believe that in this final stage Mourinho doesn't have the final word, but Levy unilaterally does. In this manner, they could argue that for example Hojbjerg only arrived here because he was cheap, and Levy doesn't want to spend money, and that Mourinho didn't prefer him.

Or one could believe that from the beginning of this window Mourinho got on the same wave length as the club, and preferred getting realistic targets over the line quickly rather than asking for too expensive players he knew he wouldn't get. (My guess)

It is a matter of how much power Mourinho has versus Levy, and if you believe they are working together or working against each other.

I think he would be an amazing signing for many reasons and would make sense for a lot of reasons.

1) Signing him would mean we do not need to bring in an out and out striker thus saving ££££.

2) Mourinho says our team is "too nice"

3) he can play out wide in a 3 man attack or as the main striker.

Is it really realistic that he’s gonna leave Barca to be a back up striker? Come on...

I imagine that's exactly whats happened. He's one of the greatest managers of our generation. Levy has no say on how to win trophies, Mourinho will have drawn up a list that he asked Levy to meet.

As good as Poch was, he was a yes man when it came to transfers.
Aren't there multiple reports suggesting that Poch got more and more power and authority regarding transfers over the years, and that he 'often' single handedly refused incoming transfers?

The day I start believing that drugged up idiot on transfer news is the day I'll admit I secretly enjoy Taylor Swift songs.

I'm all for a windup merchant but we're talking about a racist, serial-biter which is quite a difference in my books.

Thinking about this further..... If he's not 100% focused/committed; behaviorally speaking, he could become a complete liability as his body starts to quit on him and frustration with the ageing process kicks in.
