Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I really hope Davies is not considered a starting XI player at any position for a club of our reputation/stature. He's a serviceable squad fullback, a bit of an undersized squad level LCB, a good presence in the dressing room and club representative, and nothing more.

If we go to a back 3 (which Mourinho has never done, I'm skeptical), Alderweireld, Dier, Sanchez, Davies, Tanganaga, and Foyth gives us sufficient depth to make it work competing on four fronts.

Doherty and Reguillon would certainly bring back exciting attacking full backs again.

Which is typical now that we've moved into a phase of boring long ball football.

Apparently we want this done tonight.

Probably given up on finding a striker, because transfers are so hard you can only do one at a time, and then you need 3 weeks rest before you even think about doing another and tbf there's more chance of Levy finding a Dodo in his back garden and having it perform the half time entertainment than there is of Hitchen finding a competent striker, willing to live in London and play in the English Farmers League, it's just so hard abmnd the summer window must have come at poor Steve like a bolt from the blue...

I've fully melted, I'm aware of this...

But so what, he's a bit faster than Dier or Toby, and he seems like a cool guy, by that criteria I'd maybe be in line for a start if I were remotely cool.

He's poor in the air against strong strikers, weaker than he looks like he should be, no composure, poor on the ball, not consistent, not an organiser. That's the best our scouts could do with €42m burning a hole in their pockets? Seriously?

I like the guy and want him to prove me wrong, but he's regressed from his promisibg first season.

DeLigt was barely 18 and was either not ready or did not want to come to us at that time. I'm more glad about us signing Sanchez than I am about us renewing either of Dier or Toby's contracts.

I feel confident that Sanchez will become a very good CB for us if he can get a constent run of games and stop being dicked around with in the starting lineup, a problem Poch and now Mou both seem to be making. He's made mistakes, yes, but look at how absolutely poor everything has been going on around him. Having to be led by either Dier or Toby this past year and a half must have been a nightmare given how poor they were for the majority of that time.

Was thinking the same the best attacking full backs since peak Walker and Rose and we play defensive.

Still for me we need a DM (PEH is a Henderson not a sitting DM) and a striker to get something approaching squad balance.

I think he would be a good guy to pair with Tanganga in the EL/Cup games. Provide him with some stability, should be able to handle organizing the defense so that Japhet can focus more on his job and (at that level) shouldn't put Tanganga in a ton of bad spots by running out of position or misplaying the ball.

I also might be ok with him being the 4th guy in a 3 CB backline, although I don't think that formation fits Dier, Toby, Sanchez that well so not sure we will go that route.

We would probably have to play 5 at the back to make full use of them, but I wouldn't mind that.

I wouldn't either, in fact if we do sign Reguilon then we may make up for our lack of quality in CM by having two strong wing-backs in a 352. It certainly suits our squad better than the 4231 as things stand.

Lloris
Alderweireld Sanchez Dier
Doherty Lo Celso Hojbjerg Ndombele Reguilon
Kane Son

That looks pretty good.

I'm sorry there's no striker in the world standing 6'5" tall that is not considered a target man by default. He probably doesn't even have to jump to win headers against CBs shorter than 6'1".

A target man is someone who can play with their back to goal, bring other players into the game, like Fernando Llorente and Peter Crouch did for us. Dost is not good at controlling the ball or linking up with other players. He's just tall and a decent-ish finisher in the box, don't sell him as a target man because he absolutely does not play like one.
