Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We have 2 games a week until after xmas.

Bottom line; if you're hoping for Son / Kane / Bale to be the first XI then when we rotate who ARE you gonna put at ST?

Sure you can just chuck a rusty Lucas, Bergwijn or Lamela up there, but it's hard enough to shake off bench-rust as it is without being in a less than familiar position.

God forbid Kane gets an injury with that kind of schedule.

you DON’T play Kane, Son and Bale together. At least not very often, maybe for the biggest games. You play 2 out of 3 or even 1 of 3 at times so they can get a rest. That’s why we’ve got players like Bergwijn, Lamela, Moura and Dele (if he’s not sold). To cover those winger positions so Bale and Son can step in at striker when necessary. Why are we carrying so many wingers otherwise?

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I challenged anyone earlier to come up with a reason that we need a CF more than we need an attacking midfielder, and no one has even attempted so far.
ATTACK: great starters, great strength in depth, great versatility. Kane injured? Son and Bale upfront. Fucking scary.

But surely anyone who has watched our opening games can see that it's attacking mid which is the big problem? When Gio wasn't playing, did we have any control over the midfield? Any supply to our forwards?
If Lo Celso gets injured we're FUCKED. And he had injury problems last year.

I even prioritise a CB over these two positions.

This would make me so mad.

Liverpool play their best front 3 whenever it’s possible. So do City. So did Real when they had CR, Benzema, Bale. So did Barca when they had Neymar, Suarez, Messi.

If we want to challenge for the league we have to play that front 3 together. Not doing so would be idiotic and a waste.

We have those other players so when one of the starters does need a rest they can get one. But you don’t intentionally plan to not have your best XI out there.

Trojanhorse
Skriniar makes perfect sense. Romano is saying there is an issue with his price tag, but hopefully we can sell both Aurier and Foyth to raise funds. Tanganga did great at RB last year (better than Aurier imo), I'm perfectly happy with him as back up.

Let's hope Mou won't screw this up, this is a title challenging team. Lucas, Bergwijn, Lamela, maybe Milik also give up great attacking options. No injuries in defence and it'll be fine
On paper, it's simple: we need to replace Lucas with Bale - and add the new CB assuming he is better than what we have now. But the process is more organic than that. Jose rates Lucas and the work he does for the team as a RW, while Bale is not getting any younger and shouldn't be chasing LB's through 90 minutes of games - we will need to protect him at times.

Playing Bale next to Kane (Dele Alli's old role) it's also a good option for specific matches. I wouldn't like it to be used on a regular basis, though, as it leaves only two places in midfield - and I want to see Hojbjerg, Ndombele and Lo Celso together in an inverted triangle.

Bale mentioned "positions" Jose asked him to play. I think that's key. We are still going to adapt when necessary.

And yes, it's looking like we could really achieve something this season.

Well Liverpool play a front 3, but make Firmino play very deep. He probably does more tackling than goalscoring.
However, I am happy to play a front 3 of Bale Kane Son. Then if they need a rest, we have Bergwijn or Lucas as back up. If we have injury problems, we can switch to a front 2. The possibilities and permutations with our current attack is basically endless, and all brilliant.
If we had an unlimited pot of money, I'd be happy with Milik. But we don't. We may not have the funds for Skriniar, and attacking midfielder should be the obvious priority. Milik is a complete waste.

I guess we can put up Ndombele, Lo Celso, Alli and Lamela as attacking midfielders, so it can be sorted that way. While we have a big hole in CB position.
Milik would be a great opportunity signing, I think we can get the price under 20m which is a pure fucking steal for player of his quality. Meanwhile, if we try to lure Skriniar out of Inter we'd probably be forced to pay something around his market value.

I still hope for both to be done.

Fine, if we manage to get Milik for a bargain, then I guess it makes sense.
As for your list of attacking midfielders, Lamela is just not good enough and I think should be sold if possible. Alli was potentially good enough, but seems to have totally fallen out with Jose, and is on his way out. So that leaves us Lo Celso and Ndombele. Ideally you'd have both of them starting. Both have fitness issues. Desperately need another...

There’s been little talk of Lamela leaving and the club has shot down the reports of Dele leaving.

GLC, Ndombele, Dele, Lamela can all play attacking mid role.

IF we do sell those players I would imagine it’s only if there is another mid coming in. But I don’t think either player will leave.

Agree on Lamela and more or less on Alli. But anyway, these are options. While to cover 2 CBs we have Toby, Sanchez, Dier, Tanganga. It's not enough. Toby won't get younger and already has fitness issues, Sanchez isn't top quality and don't even get me started on Dier. Tanganga isn't top class, but the key word here is yet. Anyway, we need someone right here and right now.

Also, I'm not a fan of playing everyone out of their best positions only because "they do ok"
No Davies as CB in 4-4-2
No Tanganga on RB
No Sess on LB ( sorted though)
No Alli on 6 (Poch)
No Bale in midfield
No Kane on 10
No Son as 9
No Moura as 9, seriously, what the fuck
No Sissoko on the pitch

I can go on for an hour with all our brilliant ideas to cover holes due to 0 transfers for 2 years. It's not building a team, it's just trying to prevent a disaster.

Whether Lamela stays or goes is irrelevant. He shouldn't be in our first XI.
With Dele, if he is staying and he and Jose both believe that they can make it work, and he can get back to the level he was at when Jose first joined, I wouldn't be too worried about a new CAM.
But from Jose's answer a few days ago when asked if he wanted Dele to stay, his answer seemed to indicate that he's not in his plans.

Firstly its wonderful to see Puel get to stick it up Leicester secondly can we not offer them £35 plus Lamela Sissoko and Winks in all seriously thats a good deal.....for us. This lad IS THE CENTERBACK WE SIGN!
We would need scouts to have actually recognized that there is a player name Wesley Fofana. Then we'd have to go through all the stages of transfer grief before actually getting somewhere. I mean, this could be months before doing anything here.

Plus, we'd be taking RESPECT THE COCK RESPECT THE COCK 's assessment of this player. I have my doubts about getting another player from the French League Ligue. And Five's exuberance only adds to my hesitation (suck it, Five). Put me firmly in the Dias corner. Five, are you saying this guy has a higher ceiling than Dias?

Mourinho has told us over and over we need a striker. We buy Bale and what does Mourinho say? We need a striker.

So, I’d say we need a striker.
Address this point directly. If all fit, we have a great front 3. If we need to rest or rotate, we can bring in Bergwijn, or switch to front 2.
Do you have any doubts we can play a front 2? I have no reservations about switching to 3-5-2. I think with Doherty and Reguilon we'd arguably have the finest attacking full back pair in the world apart from Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
If you're a defender, would you want to face Son and Bale upfront? Would defenders be comforted by whether they're classified as strikers? THey'd be shitting themselves.

No one is putting Lamela in the first XI. I’m just saying he is serviceable as a bench player and if we have a string of injuries there are certainly worse options of players we could be stuck with.

The Dele situation is a little strange but I really don’t think he will leave this window unless he just refuses to play and forces his way out. I don’t see that happening. He will stay and fight for his spot.

I’d really just rather not have to take players out of their natural position if Kane goes down. We’d be much better suited to have a true striker step in and allow Son and others to stay at their best position.

Am I saying we couldn’t use another AM? No. I certainly wouldn’t mind adding another. But I think a ST and a CB are much bigger needs right now.
