He can’t be happy with our defensive performances so far this season though surely. I’m sure the club’s mouth piece Ali gold will be towing the line and ensuring we think Jose is happy but behind closed doors I believe he won’t be if we don’t get one.

I don’t know enough about Skriniar but if he is this world class defender and I don’t know then surely we want to bag him. Always felt Vertoghen was our best leader at the back in recent years till his decline, everyone who played with him from Toby to Sanchez looked so much better next to him.

Our defensive play is quite poor, but thankfully the team is scoring goals from a number of players.
I'm not sure either that Jose will be happy with the standard of defending, a better team last night would have had us in real trouble.
We have not managed to have a shut out in a single game yet this season which is poor, but he will get it right hopefully with skriniar.
I think he'd be happy that we've only conceded 3 goals from open play in our last 9 league games.
But I agree that we need to do better defensively. Again though, a new centre back isn't going to help that if the team is still structured and coached the same way.

Gazzaniga, Cirkin, Lamela, Sessengon still available, depending on outgoings. Probably the best and most depth we've ever had.
It ain’t going to happen this window mate so best get used to that. We’ve bought in one DM in Hojbjerg and if Sissoko can play like he did in 18/19 then that’s fine as back-up. Dier can slot in there in a crisis. Striker is definitely more required. Last two seasons have been derailed by Kanes injury. An upgrade at CB is also a bigger priority considering we’ve lost Verts. Some people need to understand that we ain’t Man City and what we’ve done this window represents the very best we could have hoped for
I think JM will be a lot happier if he Spurs can sign Skriniar or any other top class CB who can help lead and organise the defence which will cut down on goals conceded.
We need one, whether its now, January or next summer - but obviously most preferably now.
But if we don't get Skriniar now I dont think its life or death - we have an ageing but still decent Alderweireld, Dier, Sanchez and youthful but fast growing up Tanganga, and still have the option to retain Cart-Vickers to add depth - I'm sure CCV could handle Stoke (League Cup) and most of the EL group games for example.
However not signing a top class CB probably means we are more reliant upon our attackers to outscore the opposition - which with Kane, Son, Bale backed up by Bergwijn, Moura and Lamela - and a creative midfield (Lo Celso and Ndombele) and attacking full backs (Reguilon and Doherty) all seems a decent bet against most teams.

that's telling me we're playing hard-ball to see who blinks first... Play the 'we don't need him anyway' line and hope they panic and cave. 50/50. If they do we'll see him coming for €40m or less i'm sure.
Has he come back from that ACL? I saw that happen and he was playing lights out before that. Pretty quick as well.

1) I get that we are not getting one. I explained why some here (incl me) still want that kind of a player
2) told like 1000 times around here - we did not buy DM in Hjojberg. We brought a player we could push into playing a DM but up to now this has not been his position and we don't know how well it turns out
3) We absolutely ain't ManCity and no one has insisted we would be. So even more we have to set priorities. And I find that when there are 2 positions needed - to one we do not have anyone whose natural position it would be and who would start like 75% of the games vs buying a backup to other position than many would prioritize 1st option higher.
Needs tightening up I admit but when you take away once in a season rocket shots and dodgy penalties then we're not too shabby defensively and things can only get better with the new signings.
It’s obvious Mourinho wants a centre back in. Levy has got all his other target positions sorted. Can’t see why he won’t push the button on the last one.

If Jose is unhappy the rest of the EPL managers must be suicidal, only three teams have conceded fewer goals than us so far this season, and 2 of the 4 we have conceded have been highly dubious 90th minute penalties.
With the rules more and more favouring attackers playing for a 'clean sheet' will become almost impossible, look at the Newcastle game 94 minutes not a shot on goal allowed and then !!!!!!!!
Far better playing to score three and just accept you're going to concede one however well you defend.
