To be fair, it sort of is for Spurs.

I'm not overly concerned about Romero just because there are a lot of factors at play that are being, more or less, summarily dismissed by most. But the difference between the two clubs, at least what is being reported, is really nothing for Tottenham in the grand scheme of things.
Exactly for the 10th richest club in the world . £10m isnt a significant amount.
Ultimately Tottenham could structure the deal in a certain way so that the fee could be paid over multiple years or they could save £10m elsewhere. Or better off if we get that calibre of CB in we'll make up the £10m from prize money and European qualification

Levy (prior to Paratici) being unwilling to "bet" on the team has hamstrung our recruiting. This isn't a Leeds situation - Levy (and Poch) did the hard work - Spurs floor year in and year out is the Premier League and the money it brings in - there's little concern the finances could spin out of control.

There's also been reports that Atalanta are amenable to flexible payment terms. I guess that's also why I think it gets done.

I don't know if Romero will work out because CBs are incredibly hard to project, but he's clearly the #1 target and if we lose out on him because of €5-10m that is an indictment on the club as a whole.

I really agree with the 2nd paragraph.

Why can't we just pay that extra money over x years so it ends up being idk 2 million euros extra per year which is hardly anything.

Structure the deal in a way that suits us and offer them want they want.

I know Romero is a bit of a risk but he's so good and was so good and he's such a big opportunity. No other CB of that calibre has said yes to us we cannot pass it up.

10th richest in the World, whilst 2 Spanish clubs, in the top 5 richest clubs, can't afford to buy players without selling their own. One can't even register players on a free.

But keep banging that drum hey?

Barcelona can't due to La liga rules nothing to do with their wealth Due to La Liga caps.
Tottenham have enough money to do this deal , cmon.
Barca are almost a Billion in debt, that is why La Liga rules have been enforced. They're still listed as the richest club in the World.
Real also have money issues, they're third or 4th richest aren't they?

I'm not arguing about whether we have the money or not, I'm just sick to the back teeth of the rhetoric that because we're"10th richest" we must be awash with money.

The simple fact of the matter is that I have no idea how much money we have or what budget we have available for players, neither do you. So pedalling the "10th richest" as a reason for us to just pony up millions like it's pennies is sophistry.

It's not, when this ownership has a track record of bailing out of top level deals for relative pennies.
If we bail out of the deal like Skriniar when it’s our key position to fill it will be unforgivable. We saw last season how it affected the team. I hope I’m wrong but it’s all fine margins and cheating out again by ENIC is unforgivable. If we continue to labor over deals whilst paying the highest prices it’s unacceptable .

We cannot keep repeating the same mistakes. Hopefully Paratici is the man to rectify it

Romero is even higher rated than Skriniar was last year and we are even more desperate for a defender than we were last year.

You get my jist.
I wonder why Arnessen , Comoli and Baldini did not work out if only there was a pattern

Making the same mistakes? like paying full whack for Sanchez, Sessegnon, Ndombele, Lo Celso Reguilon and getting very little in return apart from inconsistency, mistakes, injuries?

It seems we've made a very good offer for Romero but if Atalanta are being stubborn there is nothing we can do about it.

Complex, yes but other teams seem to manage things in good time. Personally I'm convinced this is all done on purpose so the most expensive options are gone and he can return to Woolies pic n mix
I don't know, some of the conspiracists push the boat out a little far I believe. Levy has no motivation to tank the club. I think he's just too inflexible - he historically has whatever metric he has on assigning value to footballers and he's unwilling to exceed that value.

He's had enough positive reinforcement on this front to make changing tact likely hard to swallow. The club has grown immensely and avoided many costly mistakes. For as many players we've regretted missing out on because we wouldn't pay a bit more, we've also dodged what would have been some very costly mistakes.

We've made some pretty costly mistakes, too, TBF.

I still don't really believe its spending, in value, that's our biggest problem. But rather that most often the money we have spent in the past 8 years (since Bale left) has largely been wasted. Liverpool still hasn't spent much more than we have in the past decade...they just didn't flush it down the toilet like we largely have.

Supporters want us to spend more to cover up the fact that we spend poorly. I just think we should start spending fucking better. Hopefully Paratici can be given the reins to sort that out and overhaul our scouting big time.

I think some of you should pay the missing 10m and leave poor Daniel alone.
