I'm not saying that wasn't a stupid thing to do - it absolutely was - but I very much doubt that was the reason. Jose was sacked the day after the European Super League debacle came out, when fans were at Levy's throat. I suspect Jose being sacked the next day was either the result of an argument between the two of them about that, or (cynical but possible) Levy sacking Jose (knowing he would probably have to do so soon anyway) that morning to take the attention away from himself and his ill-fated support of the 'super league'...
