Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Well but the full quote is, "but there is a place to start". And follows up talking about how the level of the squad has dropped in recent years.

The message is that every time the club fails to take a step forward in a transfer window, it's taking a step backward and digging the hole deeper, adding more time and more money to the requirements to compete for major honors.

He's absolutely dead on, and saying what so many of us have been for the better part of four years now.

Yet appearently we are the idiots, and out "net spend" or whatever is juuuuust fine.

I mean forget about net spend, it's been obvious for years that we've got a squad that is stale and deficient in key areas and needs turnover almost for its own sake, and we've been committed to finding every way possible not to do it.

That's where this stuff about it being "hard" or "unreasonable" is so enraging.

We papered things over with loans in Summer 2020. We half-finished Summer 2021.

You can't accomplish everything right now, but as Conte said, there has to be a place to start. The bill just gets bigger every time we spurn an opportunity.

Started with insane ineptitude displayed when the first of the Poch first XI left, Walker.

Snowballing since then, the windows with no signings just reinforcing it.

Between that, the chief scout exit, the academy and dev centre heads leaving without seeming replacements etc.

Meanwhile, we STILL have Levy involved in transfers, STILL have that Mick dude as chief scout, then have Hitchens doing god knows what. That ...

... that and 3 head coaches in a row, Poch, Mourinho and Conte saying they don't decide on transfers.

It's staggering.

In all fairness it feels that we have a good manager getting the best out of a dogshit squad. We must have one of the dumbest and least creative midfielders in the top half of the league. Our midfield is so shockingly bad that we need Kane to track back and create something for our team. And then we have Dier who looks like Scholes compared to our midfielders.

Our midfield is so fucking bad its unreal.

Agree. Conte is getting 100% out of this team.

Once Romero and Son (needed a break imo) are firing, we will hopefully be a stronger side.

agree our midfield is awful, but we have spent money on Ndombele & GLC (£100M) but it was wasted

Maybe the move for Conte was just a sand in our eyes. I mean to calm the fans down, and not an idea for a project with top manager, and actually spend on good players.
I don't think Conte would have come without assurance for big money, but we all know who Levy is, and that won't happen.

he does not need big money, he is able to improve also cheap players, but they have to have particular skills that fit his type of game and soldier mindset (like skipp-dier for example)

Didn’t like the lineup, felt he should’ve been proactive with at least a handsome sub. Skipp I’m got Tanganga at halftime.

Doing a good job but that was too negative. I understand that having been outclassed by Chelsea so recently he wanted to change things up, but inviting pressure onto you for 90 minutes is never the way, particularly when it means using a new formation and system for the first time.

The other thing I’d look at is why on Earth would you not play Skipp, or only midfielder with any really ability to get about and provide some zip, in the side if you’re going for a Terri man midfield. Made no sense.

Lately, if it’s going to be a flat 4, stick Lucas on one of the flanks, as he is probably better off the ball than both the wingers who started and obviously better on it. Or, actually, give A Bryan a go as he’s the one player at the club who probably is made for an old fashioned winger role.

Conte doing some good things but I think he screwed up this one.

Skipp was not fit to start, neither were Lucas, Reguilon or Emerson. He was forced to change the lineup because of their injuries. He said that Skipp and Lucas hadn’t trained and thanked the medical team for even getting them onto the bench.

We can criticise him for not changing at HT but the starting lineup was the eleven players who were able to start. That was the first time in like 6 years that he’s changed from the back 3, it was an emergency not his desired lineup.

Spot on.

That was lame from Conte yesterday.

That was Chavs first win in the League this year!!! In that time Brighton have played them off the park TWICE and EVERTON & Wolves have managed draws, their only win in 8 games has come against Villa and now us!!!

I think Conte is genuinely one of the World top 5 managers but he has to take massive responsibility for yesterday, not only in his selections but how he choose to set up and have us play. Even Nuno had us play brilliantly for 45 mins against this lot, across 3 games now Conte's Spurs have been absolutely dogshit.

Emerson is carrying an injury (which is why he was struggling vs Leicester and came off at halftime) so I understand him putting in Tanganga, but why leave him out there when he's on a yellow and looking likely to pick up a 2nd with every attempted challenge. A liability of a player when not on a yellow becomes totally ineffectual if the only thing he has to his game, fouling trying to outmuscle, is negated.

My expectations ahead of this game wasn't a win, I thought if we played well we'd get a draw. There wasn't anything at fault individually with the effort put in by the players selected. I just think Conte got this totally wrong, just as he has against them on the 2 other occasions we've played them.

(I thought both Kane & Berwijin were good yesterday as too were Dier & Sanchez (Sanchez kept Lukaku quiet all game, losing one 1v1 when Lukaku managed to spin him), as per above application/effort was there from everyone else just a woefully set up and prepared plan from Conte. (I'd have called out Mourinho & Nuno if they did the same - almost certainly I did).

No Sonny, Romero, Lucas, Skipp. We’re playing the CL winners with a bench as deep as the ocean on their home turf at which we’ve only won once since I sat my A levels (a looong time ago). They’re our menace and have been for a long time, and will be for a while yet while we give Conte and his team a bit of space to kick off a plan of action. It’s not going to happen this January window and, according to the man himself, probably not in the summer either. This is stage 1 of the rebuild so we have to temper our expectations a bit.

As it goes, I think we’ve been doing just fine given some of the very ordinary players we have in our team. Top 4 is still a possibility. View this match with a cold eye; as a benchmark to remind us of where we need to get to rather than one to sink our spirits.

We spent 100m when other teams spent 110-120m. We are always going for players that are one shelf bellow the rest and gamble on the coming good.
We did the same with Bruno, Dybala and who knwos how many other players that we were connected with.
Im sure Conte already gave them a list of players for both in and out.
Other teams would probably respect that list as much as they can. For us Levy will keep the players he likes and buy similar player to the ones requested from the Wish.com categories.
This guy made me forget how embarrassingly bad Winks/Sanches/Dier can be, because he mad them play well.

The way I see it this is it. This is the manager that can stear this ship away from the shitshow. If this manager doesn’t get the backing he needs and we dont spend a bit more and over for him we wont be playing CL football for the foreseeable future.
