Agree that RWB is a bigger priority but the bottom line is that if we are actually serious about a PL/CL challenge, we need two new starting wingbacks on each side.
No one is expecting him to take over Hugo.
Bringing in Hugo's long term replacement now would take a huge chunk out of our transfer kitty and it's not a priority position.
This is the latest stop gap in the Vorm, Hart, Gollini lineage and he's a step up on all of them. It's good business that sets us up for a couple of years.
I loved Brad but I don't like Forster.
I am hoping we get Johnstone and IMO we will.

When you get to talks of a medical within the week the deal is usually done.
I think Johnstone was the plan but we got usurped by Palace.
The fact we were able to pivot so quickly to Forster is probably evidence of Paratici's 5 per position strategy.
I hate to say it, but it's very unrealistic. No way will we sell a dozen players in one window... it just never happens, even if we want it to. I am expecting us to sell 6-7 players max this summer, and bring in a similar number of players.
He was struggling under Conte in the beginning, but managed to find his place later on. However, that was in a three-man midfield, not the two-CM-tactic he uses now.
As a Dane, I would love to see Eriksen back at Spurs, but objectively I'm not sure he's a good fit.
But is he only using the 2 because of our lack of CM options and wingback deficiencies?
I think if he had two better wingbacks and a creative CM we'd definitely see games where we go Kane and Son up top with Skipp at the base and Hojbjerg/Bentancur and Eriksen ahead.
Exactly, with a full pre-season available to him, Conte needs to make the 3-5-2 an option. It would have really helped against Brighton and Brentford. The 3-4-3 has worked fine, but making that little formation switch when teams try to overrun us in midfield should be an arrow in the quiver. To do that you need a more creative CM than we have on the roster. Maybe that guy's Eriksen, maybe it isn't, but considering health, age, and desire for UCL Eriksen might be willing to start 12-15 games and come off the bench for another 20 over the course of a 4-comp season.
Good point! However, wasn't one of our problems this season also with teams standing way back on their own half? The matches against Burnley comes to mind.
For matches like those, we need something else. I would love if Conte would take teams like that on as Poch did; high press until they break.

I think it's also to do with our fullback's lacks quality. Bruno Lage came out after the game and said Spurs leave the midfield weak so we'll attack that, and accept the risk of their WBs being unmarked.
Eriksen would be good for the Burnley types with his great long range shots and free kicks, and those love short crosses from a few yards outside the box.
- He could play in a 3 man CM >>> It makes absolute sense to give Conte the option to be versatile and switch between systems that are already in his weaponry >>> 352
- He could play standard #10 behind Son & Kane >>> 3412-a
- He could rotate with Kulu at RWF >>> 343
- He could even be back up for Kane in his false-10 role if Son & Kulu are deployed to run ahead of him a la City away >>> 3412-b
With a 5 sub game in the league and cups from here on.... A high quality, free player that knows the club and manager really is too much of a tap-in to turn down.

I say yes if Conte wants him. He has so much ability and experience and showed last season that he is neither past it not injured all the time. Same stuff people said before we signed him on loan. He was decent. I’m sure he would be again. He fell out with Real, the club and fans. He hasn’t fallen out with us. Got on well with us.

There’s a fair few things we need to address and it’s a relatively weak position, but I’d be baffled by the main financial thrust of our window not being directed at wing backs.
It’s so obviously the area that needs to be upgraded and key to unlocking the hugest potential of a Conte side.
Sure an upgrade at LCB, CM, or forward player would be nice but we have players performing quite well in those positions. Wingback is so obviously the weakest part of the side, would feel quite underwhelmed if Djed Spence is the main target there. Good player for the future, but not really a starting 11 upgraded on day 1 of next year.

Agreed on all points. Should be the next one that gets done after Forster. No club to negotiate with and no extra bullshit competing with the likes of City or Barca.
Should give any other negotiations (like Bastoni) some boost as it shows we're serious.
Just need to stipulate in his contract that he isn’t allowed to take corners. I can’t face watching him hit the first man over and over again.
If he wants to play with 3 CM's I don't think we need to play with 3 CB's .... yet we are widely tipped to buy an LCB.
If we play with 3 CB's. LWB. RWB and 3 CM's we can only have 2 forwards .... so little chance of goals , so I think its either 3 cb's or 3 cm's ..........or one of the CM's is actually an AM playing like Kulusevski/Eriksen which in effect is 2 CM's/DM's as we have played under Conte.
