He is unlucky as he joined Spurs during the Son-Kane era. He plays best as a striker/second striker and would absolutely tear it apart in a team like Woolwich .

This is also cautionary tale for any striker/winger that Spurs will pursue

What cautionary tale for Kulu? He came in and slotted in perfectly. And clearly something isn’t right about Berg that he’s been “undervalued” by multiple managers.

If the winger or striker we buy are actually top class then there isn’t anything they need to worry about.

What is this outrage towards Bergwijn now? He's understandably frustrated because he's been under valued by several coaches at this point. The only one who has been treated worse than him for no reason is Rodon, although Conte said that he didn't play Rodon because of bruised ribs. Bergwijn is 100% in the right here, not because he's good enough to make the 1st team, but because whenever we needed to change something, either he didn't play, or Lucas was subbed on instead of him. Apart from the Brighton chance, whenever he was subbed on he delivered.
It's not really outrage, just annoyance. I was one of his biggest proponents on here, I just think he has very little right to complain.

He's wasted 2 years of our time, the least he can do is understand that he's found himself in this position because of his own failings.

He couldn't replace Moura, who's fucking wank, and then got upstaged by a "flop" from Juve. The dusty lambo post doesn't help.

The biggest issue for Stevie and I am sure many of us mentioned it at the time.. was his best position was thought to be as a LW. And people on here just assumed that he would either have to play as a RW... or that we would force Son to play in that position.

And I think that has actually been the biggest issue, as our managers during that time never really wanted to play Son out of his favoured position (which is fair enough). But of course they were also reluctant to play Stevie there (as he seems to be ineffective there). So in effect he has just been used when Son has needed a rest.

So all in all, I think he is a very good player but he was the wrong signing at the time. We should have gone for a RW during that window. But that turned out fine in the end after a couple of more windows and the Kulu signing.

So I think this time we need a player who is versatile and can deputise for any of the forward players.. and that will get them more minutes.. especially coupled with the fact that we have CL football this year.

But where is this player going to come from? And is he going to sign for us as a back-up player?

In the meantime, we have squad players like Moura and Bergwijn who, while they may not be the greatest, they're experienced enough to do a job for us if Kulu or Son get injured or need a rest. I think we'll struggle to get better players as cover.

If we're going to push on next season, we shouldn't let any players go until we've signed someone better to replace them and I can't see that happening with Moura and Bergwijn since our focus in this window seems to be on the defence and midfield.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. In the case of Stevie it's more that he wants to leave us due to lack of time on the pitch rather than us wanting to get rid I feel. It would have been ideal to keep him and use him more next season as we will certainly need that rotation.

Bergwijn is not a bad player but he never showed that he was good enough to be a nailed starter. Look at Kukusevski! Came, saw and conquered. And why? Because he’s a special special talent. Steven isn’t. Let’s sell him and move on. Him and the club.

Bergiwijn plays best upfront where Son and Kane play, which is why multiple managers have played him out of position and seem to rate him for those performances.
Paratici trying to convince a good ambitious striker to join Spurs as a back up to Kane knowing that he has to wait on the bench for someone to get injured is going to be an impossible mission

The benchmark is to create a squad like Liverpool and be competitive in all four competitions. Then their are enough games and competitions to keep everyone happy.
Salah, Mane, Jota, Diaz, Firmino and Origi. The first four players rotate nicely. Firmino and Origi don’t really play so I would argue we need four strikers. It’s up to the manager to keep everyone happy. Football is a squad game nowadays. The days of 1 sub (Gary Brook) to 5 subs are now here.

BTW am I the only one who is still bit pissed that we did not go for Trippier in Jan ?!?!

- HG
- knows Spurs
- built to be a wingback
- did not cost much
- next to no quality available in RWB market, even in summer
- can take a freekick
- we wouldn't have had to finish season with fullback that played with passion but does not produce anything going forward
- right now we would have one more position sorted out; Perisic-Trippier our starting fullbacks and Sess-Doherty as rotation/substitution...

I doubt we will find someone better than him in the summer.
If we don't decide to pay 4x as much as he would have cost...
Would have been great. But didn’t he want to go back north or something?

Alessandro Bastoni’s agent reiterates the defender is more than happy to stay at Inter, but the Tottenham Hotspur transfer target ‘is also a professional and has to adjust’ to the market.

There are growing reports that while the centre-back has no intention of leaving San Siro, there is the possibility Inter will bow down to pressure from their former coach Antonio Conte if the offer is too high to resist.

Comments from his agent to Sportitalia this evening do suggest there might be truth to that framing of the transfer story.

“He is certainly a big fan of the team he plays for, so he will happily remain at Inter,” Tullio Tinti told Sportitalia television channel in Italy.

“However, he is also a professional. This is football and he has to adjust. It’s clear he is very happy to play for Inter and feels this jersey like a tattoo on his skin.”

The 23-year-old is expected to start for Italy in tomorrow night’s opening Nations League match against Germany, which will be his 13th senior cap for the Azzurri.

Inter purchased him from Atalanta in 2017 for €31m, although he remained on loan in Bergamo for one season, then had another experience at Parma, finally reaching the Nerazzurri in June 2019.

This season he played 44 competitive matches for the club, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

Bastoni was one of the key figures in the Scudetto victory last season under Conte, who now wants a reunion at Tottenham Hotspur.
Or it could be he doesn't want to sour his relationship with the inter fans if a deal collapses and a move away doesn't happen.

Would you expect him to say he wants to leave inter? Would you want a player who is openly disloyal?

I don't get why people put so much stock in this gossip.

Berg is young and wants game time. Fair. He is however not good enough to oust any of our starters. So he should move it’s not that complicated
Next season we will play enough games for him to get the game time he wants, if he can earn Conte's trust.
