We could replace Tanganga and Winks with 2 non club trained HG players and it wouldn't make any difference to the max squad number, would stay at 24.

So in practical terms selling Tanganga and Winks and replacing with normal HG is fine, but you're right that it makes it harder to increase that to the maximum of 25.

..... not to mention there are not too many decent HG players around who are available (Maddison for example is wanted by Leicester and has 2 years left on contract) which is why we are keen on Spence and potentially Gordon.

So even getting to 23 is not assured if we sell Tanganga without getting another HG player in

Well, one of the new staff is tasked with young and lower league domestic talent.... Long overdue(*).

(*tbh, haven't remembered all the names and who does what yet; but that was meant to be Hitchin's new job until he walked....)
 
Conte made Ben Davies look like a very good left center back. Lenglet as the potential to be quite superior imo. He was immense in Seville and pretty good in the first years at Barcelona. Then the 8-2 against Bayern (sounds familiar hmmm) broke the guys spirit. I feel good about this signing.

so at the min we have 6 players for 3 CB roles

Right footed - Dier, Romero, Sanchez, Tanganga

Left footed - Davies, Lenglet.

Could we see Tanganga out - another LCB in?
