When has a loan to a non - UK league ever worked out where the player has gone on to become a good premier league player? Genuine question because I can’t think one one example even from other clubs.

Historically it's been rare that British players move abroad... Let alone on loan.... That's a relatively modern thing.

Trying to think who else we've loaned abroad apart from Sess tbh.

Gotta be honest; the more the hype-mill churns, the more I'm warming to the idea of Madison....

HG
EPL proven
Extremely productive.
Brings something a little different to what we already have in the ranks.

If he can be bagged for 50m it makes much more sense than the other names we're being linked with (Depay, Zaniolo, Paquetta).

Don't forget Maddison hates Spurs.
Also this time last year everyone here was saying how s**t he was and just a poor man's Grealish, I seem to remember.

Kane wore an Woolwich shirt, Doherty was a gooner etc.

He was a poor man Grealish about 2 seasons ago, he has dramatically upped his game since then, he pretty much carried Leicester the last half of last season.

De bruyne /salah even though they took the long way back (loaned, bought and sold back to England)

Alex was decent at chelsea.

Basically only Chelsea players due to the numbers on loan

"Everyone"?

I think the forum was (and remains) pretty split as to whether they rate Grealish. Regardless, Madison had an excellent year last year.
I was on about last year season 20/21 not last season.
Everyone here saying he's rubbish

...And since last year he had a very good season.

Everyone"?

Again........ I think the forum was (and remains) pretty split as to whether they rate Grealish.

I think they're both on a similar level, personally. They're good players with big egos but maybe not good enough to back up that ego if they step up a level. I think Maddison's style is more balanced though, Grealish is all about the 'give me the ball and let me dribble' which suits a Villa but less so a City.

I do think people underrate how good Grealish was in that final Villa season. Everything went through him, he was creating chances left, right & centre for them. It's just whether he was simply a big fish in a small pond or not.

They're a special case in terms of sheer farming of players, but Chelsea have some pretty stark examples:

But yeah, I'd argue that if one wants the player to beef up for PL action, it doesn't feel like the best idea.
