It's about time though that we spent to retain our position.

This isn't a "wah wah we haven't spent enough" because it doesn't take just money to spend it. You need to attract the right players too.
I just think 'some' fans contradict themselves.
They'll say Levy has done well to build the stadium to make money and that CL football makes more money. Then say the money We've spent is the £150m which Levy got and we should be appreciative of that.
IMO, there is still money to spend for the right player. My worry is we are struggling to convince said player(s) to join.

I would agree there is still money to spend. But not players who Conte wants at Spurs - maybe they wanted to go elsewhere (eg Raphael ex Leeds, after we asked he slowly said no to Woolwich and then Chelsea before joining Barcelona).

So IMO unless we find a last minute bargain who Conte wants, we leave money in bank until January and next summer when with a different set of players available we buy some of these new players available.

Certainly I was not expecting to get all players I would like in one window - imo we possibly needed say 10 ideally - and fully expect buying over 2 or 3 years. As an experienced football manager I expect he would have had similar thoughts.

Managers shouldn’t really drive transfers unless there is a specific reason. Poch wanted Wanyama and I get that because if you work with a player you know what they are about same way Ten Hag wants a few from Ajax and Conte loves Bastoni.

However most players aren’t coming from your old club, scouts and DoF’s should be the guys responsible, that is literally their job. They are suppose to understand the managers philosophy and research players that fit this and have the ability to play well in the prem.

There was an article recently about how Liverpool’s scouts demanded Salah while Klopp wanted a different player and persuaded the club to get him. That is how ideally it should work with us. To some extent Conte has us over a barrel because we need him more than he needs us but that won’t always be the case.

perfect post.

the coaches often have a very restricted knowledge of the players and they ask for the few ones they know, making mistakes and wasting money.
scouts and DoF are the ones who should choose the players, according with the technical skills that the coach want
ask chelsea fans about zappacosta or batshuay or drinkwater for example..

So Dier isn't home grown but is still an England player?

Genuine question.

Yep.

It’s down to how long you spent in the youth system. Dier was at Sporting.

We could win the league and certain ''fans'' would still moan about spending.

They'd rather see N'dombele at a press reveal than Hugo Lloris on the podium.

Awful, but true.

Queue the predictable responses from said ''fans''.

No he's not home grown.

Correct

The definition of Home Grown is players who trained at a club affiliated to the FA (and under PL rules also Wales, Ireland and Scotland) for 3 years between age 15 and 21. Dier trained in Portugal. He has an English passport and English parents so can play for England
