Watching our 1st halves compared to our 2nd halves pays testament to this.
I might just be so.

It is becoming really, really hard listening to coms at the moment as I really don’t get the negativity from fans and media alike. It’s like they have never seen us play, this is our pattern. (It’s horrible to watch, that’s fine but the game is 90 mins long, knowing how we play I was reasonably confident we’d get through).

I think we'll start ramping it up after the WC and in the 2nd half of the season, there's no way Conte wants us playing like this all season.

We didn't even press in the 1st half tonight, we just sat in a shape and contained, 2nd half we pressed much higher up the pitch, it's definitely done by design.

True. But many times there is confusion. The game of Klopp's Liverpool today was played by Lippi's Juventus at the end of the 90s. Or if we think of Sacchi's Milan.
Even today's Premier League football is different from that of the 90s: in Italy there was talk of English football to indicate the long ball to the header and fierce scrum situations.

😉
Yep exactly, was just thinking how it still remained a widely-used idiom in English footballing vocabulary while its counterpart slowly faded away from the Italian commentary lexicon.

Anyway, however fortunate it was they still managed to finish first in the group which is not bad at all (especially compared to our situation lol.) Conte needs to wake up fast if he wants to progress from here though.

There's nothing wrong with Conte FFS, we need upgrades on the likes of Dier, Davies, Sessegnon, Emerson etc etc.

If he wants to stay here, we should sign him up and back him. More Bentancur and Kulusevski calibre signings and he will have us playing how he really wants, a proper team.
Completely agree. Upgraded wing backs, creative CM, CB and maybe an upgrade on Hugo would make such a difference.

I want to agree but in many post match (and this one) the comments reflect our lack of playing in the first half as not planned (mind you that could be what they want to put out there deliberately).

My only real concern is how fresh the players will be when they return from World Cup (if not injured).??????

Absolutely.

This is a very unique season where going full pelt in a first half of the season with a World Cup to follow would be suicide. I have no idea really, but this has gotta be part of the plan playing like this.

Conte is effectively writing off 45mins of each match for long term gain... and so far it's working...kinda :wall: 😂

I think you're right. Conserving energy knowing the world cup is coming. Second half of the season is going to be imperative for fitness.

I also think we will bring some players in during the window to give us the edge, like we did with Kulu and Benta.

I genuinely think we will be a different beast when we have a fully fit team and post world cup.

People have no patience and yet Conte has proven time and time again how good he is, people have short memories considering how he managed to get this team to the CL last season when frankly we had no right given the way we had been before he joined us.

I am sick of seeing people asking for him to be replaced and sacked and saying "I want the spurs way back"

There is no fucking "spurs way" the only "spurs way" I know is failure, which is exactly what Conte is trying to change and if Levy and the supporters get behind him that's exactly what he will do imo.

He has literally said in an interview that's not how he intends for them to play first half, the players are just nervous. It's a mentality thing.

Stellini said as much tonight too.

.....And Lenglet & Hugo pretty much confirm the players are being mentally weak.

Falls to Conte to kick this out of them tho.

There's a plan there, but it's not being executed with mental strength required to pull it off..... And it's certainly not to just be under siege for 45minutes.

Lenglet & Hugo pretty much said the players struggle through pressure and indecision.

Was watching tonight's game, trying to characterise our style of play... and then it struck me:

"It makes no sense."

The way we are playing... makes no sense.

That we actually manage to win games, is as wild af.

But, I'll take it.

Whilst hoping for it all to click.

*soon, please, antonio, yeah.

I really think the lost of Kulusevski is playing a massive part in our link up play. He is a player that is very important to our success, his stats last year prove that. Add the lost of Richarlison and Romero, it's impressive we're still winning Champion League games and keeping up in the Premier League.

Recovering our injured players in January and bringing in at least a couple good signings during the transfer window will make a big difference in the way we play.

Big factor on why we aren't an effective counter attacking team and end up chasing the game. Along with some awful form from Son.

The Syrup has done it again. Even from the depths of the grandstands, its powers of recovery could be felt by the players on the pitch.

1 year, the positives far outweigh the negatives, the mentality he's installed in the team and the players is clear, we have now all the hallmarks of a Conte team, it's very clear what's needed in this team.
