Arguably, it’s simply the opposite to applause. If the team play well you would expect enthusiastic applause. So if they play badly…..
......you keep quiet!

No, I've never booed.

Were you one of the clowns saying 'support the team/manager, oh my god booing is the worst thing ever!' when Nuno was getting booed?

This is modern football. Like it or hate it, but acting like it applies to Spurs in some vacuum is such a bad joke and such a shitty excuse for all our failings.

No-one's doing either of those things.

1. You'll find people against booing in every fan-base.
2. This only became a topic as Conte just mentioned it.

I don't think anyone is saying that booing is a uniquely Spurs thing, and I agree that everyone has the right to voice their displeasure.
Booing certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I hear it, and hopefully the team got a managerial rocket up them after such a poor half.
Each to their own.

Yeah they are. The posts I'm responding to are directly saying our players struggle at home because our fans are so bad, or the reason we've lacked success is because our fans are toxic.

& that's fine. You can be against booing, whatever. But it's not the cause of any of our problems, just a side effect of the demands & expectations of modern fans. And Conte can be annoyed at the fans if he likes, but the fans reactions are just a reflection of the quality of football being served up.

Should've won that, second half was among the best of the season. Hit the post at least twice, referee refusing to give us anything.
Bissouma was great.

Urgently need two CB upgrades, a new RWB and a creative midfielder. Tired of Dier's routine 1 mistake per match.

Great.

It was ahead of a team 5th in Portugal, a team 5th in Germany and a team 6th in France.

I'm glad we got over the line but 'top of our cl group' sounds really impressive till you look at the CL group.
I'm loving yours and Doom Funk Doom Funk responses in this thread.

The happy clappers won't be happy. I literally posted this and got about 10 disagrees for it, after the marseille game when everyone was wanking themselves silly with celebrations in the changing room. Don't get me wrong qualifying for the next round was critical for us. But we acted like a team that just won the competition.
I'm just watching the NFL now. NY Jets who are perennial losers just beat the team tipped to be the best in the league (Buffalo Bills). The NY Jets manager in his post match conference said to his players don't act like you've won the super bowl, this should be the norm. Expect to be better and do better, this is just another game. Muted celebrations, for me that's a manager instilling a mentality change. The exact opposite of what we have at spurs, it all stems from levy though.

Real ones know that against any half decent team, unlike Marseille etc we will get put out of sight in the first half and today showed that along with Newcastle. We learnt nothing from that. I said instead of going overboard with the celebrations the players and staff should be reflecting on that shit first half performance against marseille because we won't keep getting away with it. Did we reflect, like fuck we did and we paid for it.

The same could easily happen in the R16 until we start playing from the first second.

Just saw the Conté interview on MotD, why is he not screaming at the non pen decision and take the £10k fine from the FA, then next week the ref will think twice.
I watched that about 5-times, that’s stonewall as you’ll see

I can explain.

It's simple really.

We didn't bother pressing today or any day for that matter because our defence has no speed.

We can't push up and compress the pitch because our defence doesn't have the pace to recover. Our midfield sat on top of the back 5 to help cover them.
I lost count how many times in the first 15 mins, a simple long ball over the top and Liverpool were behind our defence.

Conte adjusted by telling them to drop deep. So we took away that long ball option, but then the pattern of play was to get in shape and we just allowed Liverpool to knock it about, hence 36% possession in the first half and 0 shots on target from us.
There's a moment in the first half where van dijk miss controlled the ball and it went for a throw to us. I went absolutely ballistic in that moment. A throw in to us in the opposition half and we had our defence on the edge of our box and the midfield standing on the halfway line. Nobody wanted to push up and press Liverpool.
We normally see in a 352 Hojbjerg and Bentancur press higher. Today they just sat back to babysit our dopey defenders.

I was criticised on here a few weeks ago for saying we should switch to back 4 instead of a 5 because people thought we'd be too open. But fuck off, if you've got defenders prone to brain farts then surely logic dictates you have as few of them as possible on the pitch.

We are conceding goals with 3 CBs but more importantly its hindering our forward options. Just fuck this idea off now. You can't keep conceding 2 goals a game with 5 defenders because we don't have the attacking options to score 3 goals to win.

The first goal conceded is a joke. Classic case of having men back but all doing nothing. Liverpool players with all the time and space to do what they want.
Actually I know why we dont press and its contes game plan. The same fn game plan he has played for fn years.. No pressure on the ball, dms in tight to 3 ch no space in between the lines and hit on the break.

Our back 5, for that is what it is when we don't have the ball is not that slow, it's maybe not the fastest but it should be able to position itself correctly.

Everytime we lose the fucking ball Conte has us retreat into his defensive formation, while other teams try to win it back up the park we surrender territory and procession in a 1980s Italian style... . Today when contes plan failed again we had to head over the halfway line and press and badabing badaboom we took control of the midfield.... Still next game it will be the same old shit again....

All things considered I thought we played close to a perfect game. The lineup was wacky, but if Lucas and Kulu aren’t fully fit we couldn’t do much different other than Doherty in. On another day we win that 3-1.

For me the penalty incidents weren’t even debatable. Both were stonewall fouls if outside the box.

I know there’s no room for sentiment in football but I kind of feel bad for Dier. Chance to be a big part of the World Cup and it seems he’s completely gone off the boil.

Girl in front of us in the SE corner (Asian, Son shirt, you get the gist) permanently on her phone the whole game uploading selfies for her inevitable TwatTok channel.... Not giving one single shit about the game.... I'm sure she'd already paid for her ticket before Son's unfortunate injury.,.. but it didn't stop her updating all her "followers/stalkers" on TwitTwat.,..

At what point is it ok to tell her to fuck off, and shove her fucking selfie stick up her arse...... or has she paid her money and entitled to 'suppprt' the club in any weird way she wants....?

Either way, she was nowhere near as pissed off at FT as I was, and that's quite telling!

The future is bleak people....
The guy next to me (in a premium seat, because mine is right next to them) spent the entire first half videoing the game on his phone. Felt like telling him to watch the game with his eyes and not through a camera. Also, as I was walking up the gangway to go to the bar, an American asked me where the gift shop was! I mentioned earlier that I have never seen so many half & half scarves on display.
I know that everyone is entitled to enjoy a game in their own way, but so many tourists around these days, who just see it as another experience like going to the Tower of London.
At least I got to the noodle shop after the game, the only thing that eased the pain.

At an elite level little things matter.
We were not exceptional but we were in the game and it was going to plan.
But you can’t account for a bullshit var call. We equalise there and it’s a different game.
The dier goal you can account for because inevitably one of our defenders switch off and gift a team a goal.

Gutted, but a few positives to take away.

Bentacur, Bissouma and later on Kulu were great.

They were just hanging on at the end, and as has been mentioned at infinitum, we cant afford to start so slowly.

I am a massive Conte an, however the continual selection of Royal has me baffled. He was woeful today.

By games end, I thought we at least deserved a point.

I posted just a couple of days ago exactly what happened today. We arse about in the 1st half...always and a better than average team gets a larger lead than one goal and we are chasing. We've got to play two halves....this isn't going to win anything....
