Competition World Cup 2022

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Course we are. It's not on fans/players/whoever to feel bad about being excited for a World Cup, we're just pawns.

The big decision makers made their choices, they were wrong & that's that. Don't agree with it being in Qatar but it's still football, it's still the World Cup & I'm still gonna damn well enjoy it.

I agree. I’m actually really unsure of England’s chances. We could easily go out at the group stage or do really well. On sky sports they were going through our team and apart from centre back it’s really good. Had we a van dijk, for example. we’d be well in with a chance.

I actually think all the top teams are really similar on quality. Therefore it will come down to the manager and I think Southgate is our weak link.

Agree with almost all that, however World Cups tend to be won by (relatively) conservative managers, with the exception of 1970.

I don't know if you've discussed this elsewhere and I haven't seen it, but I recall you were adamant that Sterling was top quality and would prosper even outside of the Man City footballing machine, I was one of those disagreeing with you at the time.

Have you begun to re-think your opinion on him yet? Do you think his form is down to something else coincidentally striking at the same time as his swapping City for Chelsea?

Genuine question, not just having a dig. On the surface, as I don't have it in me to actually watch Chelsea outside of them playing against us (and even that's a tough ask!), I'm inclined to see this as proof that he was being flattered by the Man City system serving him up with assists on a silver platter.

I think he’s declined big time this season. Really surprised. The chaos at Chelsea hasn’t helped (he actually had a good start under Tuchel then fell off) but he hasn’t stepped up at all.

I don’t think he was ever just a tap in merchant, the way he played for England at the Euros showed that. But he’s really not stepped up to the plate of being a main man like I thought he would. Possible his exceptionally good years between 17-19 were just not the norm.

Really? I’d take the centre backs & Frenkie De Jong but otherwise I don’t see anyone who makes the England squad.

Likes of Janssen in there … attack reliant on meh players like Depay & Bergwijn.
What I meant to say was the clubs perform at a similar level. England are ranked 5th and Netherlands 8th.

England may have better players on paper but haven’t seemed like a much better team. Netherlands seem like one of those teams like Denmark that have solid players everywhere and put out consistently good performances.

Oh yeah, very true. LVG is a much better coach than Southgate, tactically about several leagues ahead of him, so that probably helps.

It all feels very strange doesn't it? World Cup kicks off in 5 days and it still feels like it isn't happening.

No random warm up friendlies, little hype from the England base camp, media coverage seems stilted...

My work haven't even announced plans for the England game on Monday afternoon.

Hopefully it just means less idiotic casuals pretending they know what's going on.

Yep no flags out and no world cup wall chart
