Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don't think he's not really "not being backed" necessarily. What Conte's system that he refuses to deviate from requires is elite attacking wingbacks. I don't believe we're willfully not buying any, I think they're very few and hard to come by and he's done a poor job of coaching up/integrating what we have in the mean time.

Levy 100% needs to pay Porro's release clause and be done with it, though. >£40M isn't even that much for a player you intend to be a plug and play starter in the top 6 of the PL these days. In all reality, I feel like he's turning us down because the need is glaring, it's doubtful Conte doesn't want him, and, again, it isn't much money comparatively.

We have a single wing back with any quality and he's contributed to 8 goals since being here ... there's not a coach alive who will train Emerson, Doherty or Sessegnon to be anything other than extremely mediore footballers.

Even Doherty, a highly limited mid-table level player with 1 or 2 standout attributes, has contributed a reasonable amount of g/a. There's nothing more Conte can do with these players, you could have Pep or Klopp here and it would be the exact same situation,

I’m still hopeful Conte will be backed by the end of this transfer window and the team will stay fit for the rest of the season. I think with those happening, Conte can turn it around. I’ve said it many times but I’ll say it again. He’s had a fully fit squad for what, 2-3 games? I think if we get through this difficult period + February with some points, we can make another push in a similar style to the last season. Let’s see what we can do.

Romero already at the club, Udogie loaned back to Udinese, Spence a “club” signing.

I agree with the latter especially. If we paid 10 million less yet waste the entire month of January is that really worth it? Meanwhile, we'll splash out a good chunk on Gil, Emerson, etc who can barely contribute. It seems quite dumb to worry about relatively small sums of money when the need and fit are clear. Getting a guy in one game earlier could be the difference between the Champions League and not. Levy still doesn't seem to understand it's more important to get the right player rather than the right deal. If the player is right, the deal will work itself out. But if you go for the deal and the player doesn't work out, then you've still spent a good chunk of money and still have the wrong player.

Definitely misleading. Romero last season. Udogie hasn't played in our shirt. Also not counting last season with Ramsdale, Ben White who they spent big money on and have been major contributors.

That said, there is no doubt that Woolwich has been better run from a squad standpoint recently. Look at the development of Martinelli, Saka, and Smith-Rowe. Not being afraid to loan Saliba out until he was ready to be a plug-and-play guy. Not worrying about spending a good chunk of money on a guy they valued (Ramsdale) while everyone roasted them for it. Meanwhile, we have guys like Gil, Spence, and Sarr sitting on the bench. They had a vision and executed it. Meanwhile, we try to straddle multiple competing visions. Being a club that buys youngsters and bigger-named players. But still trying to haggle for every last dollar. And then hire coaches who don't develop youngsters.

Looking at the table we are closer to Fulham Brighton and Brentford than Newcastle. WTAF!!!

Spot the manager earning £15m getting the worst performance out of his squad. Running them into the ground pre season ahead of a winter World cup.

Fuck off conte you wiggy Chelsea fuck.

Get in Robbie Keane and let’s play the Tottenham way again. 4-4 draws. Losing 5-3 after being 3-0 up. Scoring 3 goals in the first half!! Is it too much to ask???

Winning the Worthington cup by single goal margins. And getting to the quarter finals of the Europa league while chasing that elusive 4th place in the league.

This is the Tottenham we all dream about surely.
This would be funny if it wasn't what a large number of our fans seem to want.

"pretty football" at the expense of being competitive seems to be the over riding desire.

Fully appreciate right now we are neither. We all know the reason why thugh. It's not a lack of talent on the coaches behalf, it's a lack of enthusiasm.

I think 7 of their team that started against us weren't even at the club at the start of last season.

As a manager it's fine to have a system that you want to play, and if you have a guy like that then you need to work to provide him with a squad of square pegs for his square holes. But as a manager, you have to understand that it takes time to turn over a squad and you might not have a bunch of square pegs from the off. And, until you have those square pegs, it behooves you to adapt to the pegs that you do have.

Conte, himself, seems to acknowledge that he doesn't have the squad he needs and has repeatedly stated that it would take several transfer windows to get to that point.

However, he seems utterly oblivious that we still need to be winning matches and at least competing with our peer clubs between now and then.

And, at the very end of the day, system manager or no (or not even a football manager, any walk of life really) - if what you're doing isn't getting the desired results then you have to change tact.
You really think Conte is oblivious to the fact he needs to win matches?

I love Conte, but I think he needs to go. He needs specific players adjusted to specific tactics to make things work, he doesn't adjust to situation nor players he has. We have weak defence, terrible wingbacks, loaded midfield (Benta, Hojbjerg, Skippy, Bissouma, Sarr) and Richarlison who would do wonders being an forward alongside Kane. But he keeps Son, relies heavily on WBs, plays 3 CBs and 2 in midfield only because it suits his tactics. And we see the results, shitty football, shitty results, struggling on every front including very weak CL group.
