Transfers January 2023 Transfer Thread. The Big One

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Nuno didn't want to play 4 at the back. He was mostly 3 at the back at Wolves. He was forced to because it was right after Levy had that bullshit announcement about Spurs getting their identity back.

The entire point of a DOF is to keep the system at Spurs consistent no matter who the manager is so we don't have to keep buying different players for different managers. I'm not saying Conte doesn't have an influence but it still needs to fit within what Spurs overall plan is (if we even have one).

If we targeted Nuno due to a Paratici vision for 5 at the back and then Levy overruled I'd be surprised .. despite my dislike of him I don't think he's an idiot, and hiring a Director of Football and immediately overruling his vision would be idiotic.

I'm not sure Paratici fits the bill of a DoF who sets a very clear footballing vision, I just don't really see that.

West Ham were playing fossil football under a manager who is good at making fossil football somewhat effective when you're an underdog. Pumping long to Antonio and relying on big Dawson at the back was never a blueprint to progress as a football club long term, nor was very stupidly investing huge money in transfers for David Moyes.

Well, there's levels (starting points) to everything; obviously Arse have a far superior footing to WH, but it's still relative.

To me style of football sits outside of what we've just been talking about......

Yeah we'll be 3rd once we wrap the Porro deal. If the Scum manage to scrounge up the money for Caicedo we'll be 4th in the world, which is somehow not backing him?
I've literally just explained you why
you have to start your stupid count from last january. considering that romero was already bought before conte's arrival, so in no way we have spent 200M for conte.

it's pure madness continuing to say that

It'd be less, might as well remove Richarlison's in that case, save us like 120 million in fees.

Signing Romero wasn't backing Conte. We signed him before Conte & people included the transfer spending in that window, we just delayed the payments .. paying the bill for a player you had an obligation to sign pre the new manager isn't part of backing the new manager, sorry.

I don’t think so?

Perhaps at the time, but it was the ridiculous image rights rather than fee.

Bullet likely dodged.

Which is a reasonable take.... Not one however, that is shared by those that I bring into question.

These things absolutely get harvested as 'ammo'.

I mean, I've seen clowns here deride us for "pretending" to try to sign Isco even though there was never anything solid even linking us; just fan-talk.

I think most of us are arguing at cross purposes. As we’ve discussed many times, it’s not the money per se, it’s the disconnect between the players we buy, the coaches we employ and the direction of the club.

Which again would be a fair complaint; but we both know that quickly goes by the wayside and people switch to bemoaning a lack of backing, "tight bald cunts", "bargain bins" and "rejects".

It was an option to buy, not obligation, if Conte didn't want him he'd have the money to spend elsewhere.

Assuming we paid £2.5m loan for Danjuma and we spend £30m for perm transfer for Kulu and we pay £36m for Porro I make it £193m spent since Conte arrived.
Edit: Not counting Romero.
