Yep, 100% agree. After Roman using gansta/war money to fund their trophy spree they really should have had to suffer with not being able to spend money but then again this situation they find themselves in is pretty amusing. Potentially no champions league football with all these players on high wages and long contracts can't be good for them surely. Frustrating thing is they will most likely sack Potter and then just get some high profile manager in.

Issue is eventually it will work. You can’t keep throwing money like that and it keep failing. Eventually they will get the right manager in. Enjoying their demise though.

Laugh it up folks, but they are our next league game. We know how this story goes.

Based on the motd highlights, they rested James and sterling looked a threat when he came on. Another day and they get a couple. Plus Southampton defended really well, something we are incapable of. Whilst it should be a good time to play them, I think they were unlucky yesterday. If we play well we can do it. Just not shitting our pants when we play them would be nice for a start.

I think James is injured again. I saw the Sky highlights, Southampton made a couple of last minute blocks, defended for their lives.

Chelsea's demise is being overplayed methinks. They lack a proper striker obviously but they will click.

I dislike this lot probably more than any other team.
Putting that to one side for a moment, it's a bit of a clusterfuck there. First, they bring in Potter, a decent guy who I quite like but this has been a step to far. Then, the yank owner starts playing FM23 and signing all and sundry and expects them to gel just like that, probably telling Potter who and how to play.
Anyway, back on track, hope we stuff them.

I am amazed at how Chelsea's new owners have done business.

Firstly, paying £16M to get Potter released from Brighton and then putting him on a 5-year contract worth over £50M was crazy. He is almost unsackable due to the costs. Their fans are now turning on Potter (2 wins in 14) in such a hostile way it will make it almost impossible for him to succeed even if the owners are committed to him.

Secondly, the players they have bought - quite frankly they have overpaid for, will not recoup their money for any of them.

Enzo Fernández €121m
Wesley Fofana €80.4m
Mykhailo Mudryk €70m
Marc Cucurella €65.3m
Raheem Sterling €56.2m
Kalidou Koulibaly €38m
Benoît Badiashile €38m
Noni Madueke €35m
Carney Chukwuemeka €18m
Andrey Santos €12.5m
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang €12m
David Datro Fofana €12m
Gabriel Slonina €9.1m
João Félix Portugal Atletico Madrid Loan
Malo Gusto €30m

And putting these players on 7-8 year contracts to bypass FFP rules (due to player amortisation) is a risky business ... if a player flops and cannot earn the same elsewhere - well, Chelsea will be stuck with them for the long term.

I really hope they do not find any financial loopholes to cheat their way out of the big mess they have created.

There's a reason why no other chairman has done this, putting players on massive contracts only leads to player power and it creates a coasting mentality, something which has been synonymous with Chelsea for years.

How are you meant to reward good performances if the players have already been awarded a long contract in the first place? Players don't need any excuse to become complacent so what happens when they down tools, you're not going to be able to sack or sell the players as they are assets and become even more invaluable because they are on long term contracts.

Whoever the manager is in charge will need to make it work because it's gonna be hard to bin them off their contracts, unless I'm missing something here then that looks to me like a terrible strategy.

they spend money the money on the wrong player.

Should have got the below even if they had to wait until summer.

Rice: in the summer for £100m
Gardivol: £100m release clause, could get now
kvaratskhelia: probably about £100m in the summer
Joao Felix: fair play good loan signing
Bellingham: probably about £100m minimum in the summer
Osimhen: about £100m in the summer

They could have bought that incredible team, instead they got what you quoted.

Todd B is from the mlb world where spending this type of money is the norm and I think he’s predicting the prem to grow in value so to him they’re just long term investments.

I heard that he might be intentionally inflating the market price or something to make it harder for other clubs to get players which is why he keeps on hijacking deals.

I think people are over estimating how astute the whole chelsea splurge is. There is another truth hiding in plain sight, The splurge is basically bonkers too many players were bought to allow team building to take place. Eventually a sensible person will have to be brought in to cast an eye on the squad and there will be some expensive mistakes that will have to be painfully moved on.
